All, I am on a satellite link so there is a long delay in my internet. Is there a way to adjust the system tolerance for the latency in my comm link? BOINC keeps cycling between "Communication deferred" and "Scheduler requesting.." Say what you will about Sisyphus. He always has work. |

Your errors are not because of slow or 'long delay' internet. "Communication deferred" for 5 minutes is nothing to worry about (normal message). The errors are because your ISP re-codes the .jpg files http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=7139312&offset=0&show_names=0&state=6&appid= http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=3241141022 Stderr output <core_client_version>7.2.28</core_client_version> <![CDATA[ <message> app_version download error: couldn't get input files: <file_xfer_error> <file_name>seti_700.jpg</file_name> <error_code>-200</error_code> </file_xfer_error> </message> To remedy just: 'Skip image file verification' yes http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/prefs.php?subset=global - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) |

I wish that were the answer. Still have not managed to download a SETI task. On the other hand primabonica is running just fine. Any other preference settings that would have an affect? thanks. Say what you will about Sisyphus. He always has work. |

I wish that were the answer. Still have not managed to download a SETI task. On the other hand primabonica is running just fine. If the "skip image file verification" mentioned above is set to yes, then BOINC may think you don't need any work due to the work you have on board from your other projects. You could increase share to Seti and see if that helps, or temporarily set your other project(s) to "no new tasks" to force BOINC to try and D/L Seti. Keep in mind though, that even if it works, Seti will only give you one task because of all the prior errors. You'll need to return a few completed tasks, and get them validated, before that number increases. EDIT: Out of curiosity, what are your preference settings for "Maintain enough tasks to keep busy for at least -- days" and "... and up to an additional --days"? |

Turned off "new task" for primabonica. Would guess it will take a while given the number of files currently on hand. Thanks for the input. It has been a while (years) sense I was up and running, but as I remember all works well when I get it running. Turned off "new task" for primabonica. Would guess it will take a while given the number of files currently on hand. You'll want to change that 2 + 3 to, for example, 2 + .1. Since BOINC v7, the way BOINC handles those settings has changed from the way they were handled in v6. |

I too, am getting "Communication Deferred" statement. Is it, because I have another computer crunching files for Seti too ? I have not discovered yet, where to find out, how to set-up a group, for myself & all of our computers, to help the Seti@Home cause ? Based on the suggestion below, I did turn on "skip image file verification" closed, then reopened, but still to no avail ? Any insight would be appreciated. I have a Quad Core sitting idle most of the time, so at least 50% of it can be doing something for the cause.. |

Your quad core system has the maximum amount of work you can get (100 units). As you finish some work and return it, you'll get more. |

I wish that were the answer. That was the only thing needed to fix the errors: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=7139312&offset=0&show_names=0&state=4&appid= There are also other options to fix this as: changing your ISP, convince the ISP to not re-compress the JPG files, or use VPN like SecurityKISS (no way for your ISP to see/change your traffic): http://www.securitykiss.com/) (ability to ask for tasks is completely different matter, your initial problem were errors on every task) Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |
