Chris, I assume you are talking about Astropulse rather than MB. There have been quite a number of long running APs around recently, this is generally due to lots of blanking which makes the analysis more difficult, thus slower. 1) They may be workunits which are scheduled to run on your ATI card, but there's nothing especially 'ati' about the workunits themselves. What matters is whether they are Astropulse workunits (name starts 'ap_') or Multibeam (doesn't). 2) It also doesn't matter where they have reached, and when: again, the real question is whether they are still moving. MB tasks should update (and change) their progress %age (as shown in BOINC Manager) every second: AP tasks less often, only when the progress change to be recorded is 0.9% (111 updates in 100%). If your task hasn't moved in 10 minutes, it's stuck, but not necessarily dead. The usual advice is to suspend/resume the task, and failing that, exit and restart BOINC. If neither of those shifts it, and only then, consider aborting it. |

This is more about lack of CPU resources. If you run high blanked AP`s and your CPU is busy the GPU doesn`t get feed properly and cant process blankings as it should be. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

Over the last couple of weeks I seem to have had a number of ATI GPU workunits that go for about 10 hours for 60% completion. I abort them in favour of others that take the usual 3 hours. Is anyone else finding this, or has it been posted about before. Other people have posted about the same phenomena. Most of the problems are associated with Windows XP AstroPulse tasks. I have one card that has recently become effected, an ATI 4670 in XP. I downgraded to BOINC 7.0.44 without any success. Sometimes suspending and resuming the task work, those times that work are usually accompanied with the Elapsed Time being reset. Other times it doesn't work, and the task finally finishes hours later indicating NO BLANKING. If I'm around, I'll just pass it to the CPU. This was today's task, Task 3207980949 'percent blanked: 0.00', there wasn't any blanking, I've seen this a few times. The NV card in the same Host isn't affected. It's only occurring on that one Host... I was hoping you might try tweaking your 5800 in the Host you donated to the Raccoon Lovers. If you add a command line entry to the ap_cmdline_win_x86_SSE2_OpenCL_ATI.txt file you'll probably avoid most of those Errors. Try adding; -unroll 10 -ffa_block 8192 -ffa_block_fetch 4096 -sbs 256 -hp to the file and see how it works. This is a different problem than the one above. |

I've an AP on my xp box running an Nvidea card. I'll let it run and see if it ever finishes. Spot on low cpu resources, it is fed by an 11 year old p4. |

I've an AP on my xp box running an Nvidea card. I'll let it run and see if it ever finishes. Spot on low cpu resources, it is fed by an 11 year old p4. With this Host, Computer 6897787 running XP, a NV 430, and a single P4, you would probably be much better off running driver 266.58 when running AstroPulse tasks. nVidia driver 266.58 doesn't use a full CPU core as later drivers do when running APs. I don't have a NV 430, so, I don't know if that card will produce more RAC running MB or APs. My NV 250 will produce more RAC running MBs than it does APs. Chris must have his problem Host Hidden, his 5800 doesn't appear to be having MB problems. It's just that ATI cards are really slow at running MB tasks and are much better at running APs. When running MBs, the ATI 5800 isn't much better than my NV 250. However, when running APs, the ATI 5800 is about 8 times as fast as my NV 250... |

I am running 2 astropulse tasks with the Lunatics optimized app for Linux (SSE3). They take about 32 hours, after starting high priority with a time to completion of about 300 hours. This on my SUN WS while the HP laptop is running SETI 7.01. I am not using any GPU but I read interesting things about the new AMD R9 290X. Has anybody of you tested it? Tullio |

Well it finished in 17h 15m and validated. A typical "good" run time would be 6h 15 to 30 m. |

Thanks for the suggestion on the driver, as for MB the RAC was a lot lower. |

Well it finished in 17h 15m and validated. A typical "good" run time would be 6h 15 to 30 m. I just had a 'normal' AP drag on for over 11 hours on my ATI 4670. A normal time on that card would be 6.5 hours. The last time I checked it was at 3 hours in and almost 50% finished. Then something 'bad' happened. Suspending/Resuming didn't help. The card was still working as hard as it could, it just wasn't going anywhere...fast. ![]() |

It appears AMD has changed their Driver Links again. All the Wonderful links on the ATI Driver Version Cheat Sheet are also broken. I've already changed my XP driver back to Catalyst 11.12 from a backup file. Does anyone have a current link to Catalyst 11.12, for XP, and LEGACY Driver 13.1, for Vista & above? The current AMD links on their site only go to Catalyst 12.1 and LEGACY driver 13.9. |

You can find my repository at http://www.shelteringoak.com/drivers/. Go to Video -> ATi -> Catalyst and select your video card model, then select Catalyst version. |

You can find my repository at http://www.shelteringoak.com/drivers/. Go to Video -> ATi -> Catalyst and select your video card model, then select Catalyst version. That has 11.12, but not Legacy 13.1. I ran Legacy 13.1 with my ATI 4670 for months without a problem in Windows 8.0. Now I can't find it on the AMD site. I can find Legacy 13.9, which has only been out a few weeks and most likely untested with SETI. I did find what appears to be a working link for 13.1 though, AMD Catalystâ„¢ 13.1 Driver for AMD Radeonâ„¢ HD 4000, HD 3000 and HD 2000 Series. So, for the problem machine in the OP, I would suggest the link for Win Vista/7/8 64bit. It appears to be a DL Link from AMD. Of course, you would want to check GPU-Z and make sure it shows the 4770 as having OpenCL before you launch BOINC. You would also want to delete all the .bin & .wisdom files from your setiathome.berkeley.edu folder so new ones can be compiled by the new driver. Then cross your fingers and carry on... So far my 4670 seems to be working well with 11.12, but, it seems the long runs came with the APs with very few Spikes. It hasn't run one of those yet. BTW, anyone try GPU Caps Viewer before? It appears to be a handy little utility. |

That has 11.12, but not Legacy 13.1 http://www.shelteringoak.com/drivers/Video/ATI/Catalyst/Radeon%20HD5000%20and%20newer/Catalyst%2013.1/ Also old Drivers can be found here: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ati_catalyst_vista_64/14129/ GPU Caps Viewer is known here for a long time: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=61080&postid=1025065#1025065 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=68607&postid=1253703#1253703 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=68634&postid=1254578#1254578 Â ![]() ![]() Â |

That's not the Correct Driver for an ATI series 4 card. That is the driver for a HD5000, series 5 card. The OP was about an ATI 4770, one of the ones here, Computers belonging to Julie. As I stated in a PM, most Series 4 cards won't even run ATI Multibeam, my 4670 won't. It also appears my ATI 4670 doesn't like Catalyst 12.1, I haven't had any problems since installing Catalyst 11.12. Maybe Julie can install 11.12 first, and see it that cures the problems before updating to the newer LEGACY 13.1 on Her Windows 7 Host. |

Since the 4670 only has OpenCL beta level support its very hard to tell what the reason is. The problem is some cards have the RV 740 Chip built in while other already have RV 770. OpenCl support is fron RV 770 onwards only. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

You can find my repository at http://www.shelteringoak.com/drivers/. Go to Video -> ATi -> Catalyst and select your video card model, then select Catalyst version. Fixed. You'll find the drivers in http://www.shelteringoak.com/drivers/Video/ATI/Catalyst/Radeon%20HD2000%20-%20HD4000/Catalyst%2013.1%20Legacy/ BTW, I found them rather easily by going to http://support.amd.com/en-us/download and plugging in the proper options. I found 13.1 Legacy for Windows 32bit here: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy2&os=Windows%208%20-%2032 and Windows 64bit here: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy2&os=Windows%208%20-%2064 |

That's not the Correct Driver for an ATI series 4 card. That is the driver for a HD5000, series 5 card. You are right - the .inf files (at least) are different. More results here: http://drivers.softpedia.com/dyn-search.php?search_term=Catalyst+Legacy They lead to links on www2.ati.com like: http://www2.ati.com/drivers/legacy/13-1-legacy_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc.exe Of course if the filename is known the link can be made manually by appending the filename to any of: http://www2.ati.com/drivers/ http://www2.ati.com/drivers/legacy/ This way you can get even very old drivers (the link below works but is given only as example, not as any recommendation): http://www2.ati.com/drivers/9-12_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu.exe  ![]() ![]()  |

This way you can get even very old drivers (the link below works but is given only as example, not as any recommendation): That's interesting, but, I can't seem to get it to work for Catalyst 11.12; http://www2.ati.com/drivers/11-12_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu.exe When I go to AMD, http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows%20XP%20-%20Professional/Home&RenderOnServer=true , then try the Previous Drivers and Software link; http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/previous?os=Windows%20XP%20Professional/Home I get; Sorry, something went wrong http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/previous?os=Windows%20XP%20Professional/Home They really need to fix that. It appears this Host doesn't even have OpenCL installed Computer 7044418 . A perfect candidate for Catalyst 11.12. |

This way you can get even very old drivers (the link below works but is given only as example, not as any recommendation): Even through that link doesn't work, if you had managed to get it, you would find that it is the driver without OpenCL support, at the time you could also download just the OpenCL driver too: looking through my Getright history gives me the following url's: http://www2.ati.com/drivers/11-12_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe http://www2.ati.com/drivers/11-11_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe http://www2.ati.com/drivers/11-10_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe and I follow the same convention and modify your file name I get one that works: http://www2.ati.com/drivers/11-12_xp32_dd_ccc_ocl.exe and if you happen to need the AGP version it is: http://www2.ati.com/drivers/hotfix/11-12_agp-hotfix_xp32_dd_ccc.exe Claggy |
