Its not bad. Not bad at all. However, on my last trip to Devon, I did a little stocking-up....no, they were not black with seams at the back, either! From a local Farm Shop (Miller's Farm Shop in Kilmington), I purchased the following that I can wholly recommend; particularly if you know a friend who goes down to that area on a fairly regular basis.

'Brewer's Preffered', from Branscombe Vale Brewery, Branscombe, nr Seaton, Devon, weighing in at 6% ABV. Very similar in taste to McEwan's Champion Ale or Black Sheep Riggwelter and very smooth. Quite simply, this is a very good quality and delicious 'porter', which I rate far higher than most beers that the large(r) breweries make. One point of particular note, is that, this is a 'bottle conditioned beer'.

'Otter Head', from Otter Brewery in Luppitt (to the East of Honiton), Devon. I'd say this is a light ale (or a 'Stealth' ale, depending on your point of view), but one of 5.8% ABV and incredibly smooth - so smooth, that you won't even notice you've drunk a bottle or three, until you stand up! It is marginally more expensive than the 'Brewer's', but I only put this second, because the 'Brewer's' is that good!

'Jail Ale', from Dartmoor Brewery, Princetown, Devon. While it may 'only' be 4.8% ABV, once again, very smooth, but full of flavour. It reminds me of Newcastle Brown, in many ways and is also brewed in the highest brewery in the U.K. This beer, was also available to buy in Tesco in Exeter.

'Proper Job', from St Austell Brewery, St Austell, Cornwall. A brilliant IPA, right up there with Marston's Old Empire and with a similar strength of 5.5% ABV. I personally, prefer this to Marston's, purely on taste. For an IPA, I can't praise this highly enough. 'Light', with a bright taste, it'd be brilliant for BBQs on a hot Summer Day. On a cold Winter Evening, its still good!

At S@H Beer Drinkers, we properly research these beers, so that you can buy with confidence!

Not me, I think it's for all. If you can handle it then go for it.

Honestly, Chris, you'd do better, to head for Miller's Farm Shop, at Kilmington Cross - EX13 7RA. Google it, if need be. You'll find much more than just good local beers, there. I also got from, Miller's, an absolutely superb IPA from The Piddle Brewery in Dorset...a stonking 7.1% ABV - not cheap, but worth it. They also have a small range of Perry's Cider. It is also a brilliant place to buy good quality fruit and veg and for those with more 'Continental' tastes, they may even surprise you, with what they stock.

Well the first of my "Badgers Poachers Choice" has gone down very well.

I often see descriptions on beer and wine labels that describe the flavor " a hint of cherry and burning hay" you know the sort of thing so I was skeptical as this was described as "Notes of Damson and Liquorice" Well actually that about sums it up. Its is a darker beer with a nice "soft" feel, a slight bitter tang but the slightly stronger taste of plums. I think it the sort of beer that goes down really easily and before you know it your "very happy"

Highly recommended. (The beer that is not getting blind drunk)

Not here it didn't. In fact Beer O'clock here has been running in overtime mode for several days so that's why I was fairly quiet.

But seeing as it's Thursday here a "liquid lunch" (otherwise known as Beer O'clock) will be starting in about 2hrs. ;-)

Cheers.
