good enough to get a card off Queenie. But of course, fighting for the British
during WW2 to keep our independence amounts to nothing today. They want to give
all this hard won independence away and pay Brussels money for taking it too...

I know and others know too that neither Germany nor France will ever give the UK
any controlling influence on how Europe is to be run. This is all down to our
close ties with America for they fear that with UK control in Europe so
America will gain influence via the back door through the UK. So why not, lets
face it, America has made a big success in forming and running their United
States and there's absolutely NO CHANCE of Europe replicating this success...
...Europe is living a dream...time she started to wake up else her dream will
eventually turn into a nasty nightmare.

you are partly right Nostrodamous however if you lived at the time he was you would make shore that not all or even anymore than say 30% of those Quatrans where true or you would have been called a witch or demon and burnt at the stake .

political ways, want better progress, want the UK to gain it's old vigour again,
want much less government so that the UK can breath again...and most importantly
of all, "Don't want foreigners telling us how to run the place". But as an old
Etonian, Ken, you don't realise all this because unless another Etonian pal of
yours tells you all needs changing then your not going to listen....are you!

Your a Europhile because you love the way that Europe is run. Run by an
elitist bunch who are way beyond the reaches of the ordinary man/woman in the
street...the Etonian way and you love it. Have a good look at the list of well
known Etonians, you'll find one thing strikingly missing from this list...anyone
who has actually earned any wealth for the UK. But in this list a whole bunch of
people who have been in positions to manage the UK wealth though. How can they
manage our wealth if they have no idea or experience on how to earn it in the
first place. Roll-over Ken, your days are numbered along with your pals too,
change is coming, taking longer than many wish to see, but it's coming never the
less. You can knock the UKIP party as much as you want Ken but it makes no
difference whether it's them or via another political party to be borne in the
future....change will come. So if you Etonians want to play a part in this
change then I suggest that you'll need to change along with it.

You are unfortunately giving the impression that you have a chip on your shoulder about public school education, which I hope isn't true. Clarke has no real power in politics any more, he is "Minister without Portfolio". He is in the Cabinet because he is useful with many years of background knowledge and advice.

Fair point to raise. However, why do you continuously do this? Ignore the points being raised just to focus on a point that really is not relevant to the rest of Nick's post.

There is no doubt & history will show, that Clarke was an effective chancellor & had Labour continued with his plans for several years or more, then Britain would not be in its current postion as they would have maintained a budget surplus.

However, he is now 8 years past his "sell-by Date" & rather than throw out the baby with the bath water, politicians aged 65 & over should be retired from front line politics & put to good use within a special department for them so the knowledge & experience does not go to waste.

Should that ever happen, then a tight oversight should be also applied to prevent them being paid astronomical salaries a la local council chiefs on £400,000+.

If all the main parties did this, then I'm pretty sure that the cock ups made over the last 40 years would not have been as disastrous as they have been.

As regards Ken Clarke being an old Etonian comes from my assuming he was since
some refer to him as, "An Eton toff"

Because Nicks post seemed to be more of a rant about public schools than anything else. It was a fair response.

I thought it was a rant about the Etonian type attitude as there was no reference
to the public schools unquestionable high standards of education which make them
very worthy institutions.
When "one" tries to read between the lines can be construed by others that "one"
