Thank you Horacio and Juan. I just needed someone to confirm that I set this up under my advanced options for http and now you have given me hints on how to find the proxies. I haven't seen anything written so far on what port setting to use. Anyone have any suggestions there? I will try to google this idea, but I would sure appreciate it if someone would poing us/me to a good article on the topic. I am feeling pretty frustrated now and have switched over to alternative projects GPU Grid, Milky Way and World Community Grid and Einstein for my desktops with Nvidia 550 Ti cards. My newer notebook with an i7 2670 qm processor and Nvidia 525m graphics card is also having a lot of trouble getting work since this morning. Even this little Toshib i3 computer. a Portege R705 with integrated graphics is having trouble now getting work with lots of time outs and no work available during most of today. Am frustrated just like a lot of others, but will keep trying and handing off to alternative projects when scheduler problems get this bad. Seti RAC is dropping like a stone, but hey, I'm just trying to lend a hand when I can. I hope that we don't lost a lot of SETI at Home participants over this. Brother Frank |

To find a proxy you better use google, if we post a proxy address here and everybody start to use it, the admins of that proxy will block the SETI comunications due to the bandwith used... Will a HTTPS proxy work? What is the optimum location for a Proxy? Could it be located in the US rather than somewhere else (in order to minimize the distance between Seti server and the proxy)? |

Okay guys.. don't shoot. I tried searching because I've seen this asked before and answered multiple times.. The broken 6.10.58 64-bit windows installer issue. I remember asking a while back which was more preferred between 58/60 and I got more responses for 58, but I can't download it. Reason I guess I'm finally going to upgrade is because 6.2.19 has been working great for me until this week's updates to win7. One of the updates I guess changed some API code or something in the GUI and now the progress bars in BM don't appear. It is just text that is right-aligned instead of centered, and the rows don't alternate with white and slightly shaded, either. I do plan on adding no_gpus to my cc_config as well since I have an ancient 8800GT that has chirping capacitors for the past six months. I'd rather not push it to its death sooner than I can afford. Can someone point me to a forum entry detailing how to limit number of files being reported. I've looked thru the boinc & seti XMLs and didn't see a likely entry. I know I've done this before but as they say "the memory is the second thing to go" I forget what's first! I added the line <max_tasks_reported>N</max_tasks_reported> to my cc-config but get message 11/16/2012 12:31:20 AM Unrecognized tag in cc_config.xml: max_tasks_reported>. I'm using boinc 6.10.60 x64 on a windows xp x64 machine will it work with this boinc version? The rest of the short cc-config works fine. <cc_config> <log_flags> <dcf_debug>0</dcf_debug> <file_xfer>0</file_xfer> </log_flags> <options> <save_stats_days>5000</save_stats_days> <dont_contact_ref_site>1</dont_contact_ref_site> <max_file_xfers>6</max_file_xfers> <max_file_xfers_per_project>6</max_file_xfers_per_project> <max_tasks_reported>25</max_tasks_reported> </options> </cc_config> Delta-V |

Lee, pse bookmark this site: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Client_configuration, there u can find, limited task reporting is a new function in 6.12.x and up clients. - Performance is not a simple linear function of the number of CPUs you throw at the problem. - |

HTTP proxy didn't work for me. Tried a HTTPS proxy located here in Holland an although DL's are slow like hell I'm now finally back to what S@H tells my rig to be max. tasks... ![]() |

I did some download timings last night - yes I was getting downloads, and boy did I need them! Anyway, an outline of the observations. They fall into two blocks, those that started and downloaded at a reasonable rate, and those that effectively stalled. Each "window" lasted for about 5 minutes, during the second half of the "poor" download window and the first third of the "good" window uploads and scheduler requests timed out, and once started would stay in that window type for a long time (several cycles). Seeing there are two download servers this is pointing to a problem with one of them, and that once the downloads have "stalled" on the poor server this results in a slug of network traffic that gets to a point where requests get stalled. Possible solutions? First (expensive), have two servers that are man enough for the task - I would guess that the "good" one is GeorgeM, but this is only a supposition. Second, change the change-over timing so that it does not coincide with the BOINC failure/re-try base timing. I believe that both timings are set to a shade over five minutes, one is held the client, the other is on the server. Since there is little access to the client (there is no auto-update within S@H/BONC), so why not move the server one by a minute - down might be better than up as it would reduce the exposure time to the "poor" server. Reducing exposure time to the poor server would reduce the communications pile up to a manageable level and so have a few happier Setizens.... There are 2 DL server, Georgem (the fast - good) and Vader (the slow - bad),they work like a circle, if you conect to the good, the DL are fast to the bad they are slow. Don´t know a way to bypass that circle and conect directly to the good one, if anybody knows and could share the info i will be grateful if could PM the whow to do sequence. About the proxy, HTTPS works OK, i use normaly a Local or an US proxy but in theory any proxy in any place could work. What is the best? is impossible to say with out testing, its performance if heavely related to the Web spider net impossible to know structure. Try to use one with a high Uptime (>90%) and Transfer (Bigger is better) is easy to find one working in http://www.freeproxylists.net One last warnming, if you use a free proxy and you use to many bandwith normaly (as we all use for SETI) the kick you out after some time, then you will have no other option than find a new one. ![]() |

Don´t know a way to bypass that circle and conect directly to the good one, if anybody knows and could share the info i will be grateful if could PM the whow to do sequence. Thanks, sometimes we are so old and forget the basics. All conections to Vader ends on a heavy loose of packages to Georgem no loss that could be help in your seaches. My actual IP: 201.80.189.152 (don´t worry is dynamic will change automaticaly in few minutes) (edit) Some guys ask me by PM, No, not all free proxies work, you need to try and find one that work in your case. Can´t say what will or not work without testing. Thats exactly one of the "bad" things when you use a proxy. The one i use could not work in your case due the incredible complex conections routes avaiable on the www. Sorry, You need to babysiting. ![]() |

Hey, With a proxy you can get higher throughput than without. It is totally different now compared to a direct connection. Previously on congestion at SETI the calculation was faster than Download or upload. |

WTF is going on As far as I am concerned why the heck is SETI making its most dedicated people having to skirt around their issue with proxy servers just to get 200 tasks then get whacked with limits. If the AP units are causing the big blockage then stop the AP all together until this gets sorted out. I have been getting work but my GOD the trouble to get them is just incredible. If it is like this again after next Tuesday outage then I just might be taking a different project to heart. I have seen several people just uninstall BOINC over this issue. PLEASE FIX IT Michael Miles |

Thank you so much Juan. I used the url you gave us and the message of yours that I have replied to here and asked for United States proxies with an uptime of more than 90% for upload and download. I used the https proxy. The table of proxies I got back listed the host and the IP address. This is all under Projects and then Tools above it in a light blue in the Boinc Manager. I had to enter the IP address with each followed by a period. When I just used the standard spacing without a period mark, I got an error message in my log file saying "unable to resolve host" This takes a little bit of experimentation in entry format because it is assumed that everyone has this spacing and form of entry knowledge. No user name or password was necessary. In my HP Intel Core Duo Desktop E5200 processor with Nvidia 550 Ti graphics card I got more than 20 new fermi cuda work units right away. I hadn't got anything in more than a day. Thank you. Thank you Juan. You are a lifesaver for this frustrated cruncher. I believe this is some kind of telecommunications issue or networking issue that may not be very difficult to solve because the change to proxy url worked so fast in getting me new work. I hope this detail helps some of you. My RAC is sinking below 30k now, but I have more hope thanks to many of you who have been discussing the proxy server interim solution. This is helpful for my computers running Nvidia graphics cards. My machines without dedicated graphics cards are still doing ok, but with some time out issues still. Hey, Ok the first Proxy I used had me blocked out. It did not take too many hours for the Proxy to think I was overusing it. Changed to another one. Seems ok now so far. |

How do I get rid of the ghost files? My wife has less then 10 CPU wu's to crunch (0 GPU) But there are about 1180 ghost WU's on her account, so she doesn't get any new work. http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=5936358 Goodbye Seti Classic |
