even registering online you'd have to have a valid address and eventually prove that you actually live somewhere. They know when you provide a false address. Also multiple registrations at 1 single family address sends up red flags which causes the elections folks to send out mailers to determine residency. Also changes in drivers license addresses gets you a mailer. How do I know? I got a mailer. I had to check that yes I had moved to this address from the previous one in this county. I think that you think its pretty easy to fool the system or even game it. It is very hard to get a fake voter registration without some form of residency documentation. and the penalty for having a fake voters card is harsh enough to deter anyone from really wanting to try. Skil, do not think for one moment that how your county handles it is the same as every county in the USA. Many are so damn broke they can't even afford to do the computer cross checks. And any mailing list company can deliver matching names and addresses. Then a purge of already registered voters. Submit the rest. Might be an issue to send all the absentee ballots to one address. If yo really want to do this and have the $$$ behind it, not an issue. |

you make the effort sound like a person going through all the names and addresses by hand. This is the 21st century. We have a things called computers. Computers have the ability to run complex programs and spit the data requested in miliseconds instead of weeks or months that a single person might take to examine the same data set. Or did you already know that about computers? I do think that 3rd world countries have the right idea to prevent fraud. Purple or Henna permanent stain to stick ones thumb in. Lasts for weeks and certainly is a visible sign of a vote being cast recently In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

We have these things called laws. Somehow they don't seem to get updated very often. They frequently require the then state of the art procedure. And of course each step has to be verified by an observer from each political party. Oh and when they do use a computer that might mean that a nepotism job or two might be redundant. |

how depressingly pessimistic. IF I were you, and I'm not, I'd make a run over to the county seat and ask the questions you want to the actual people that run the office. I'm betting that most if not all of the data isn't first processed by computer and then read by humans to confirm the info. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. I'm betting that most if not all of the data isn't first processed by computer and then read by humans to confirm the info. There are 58 county seats in California. I know in Los Angeles it will be by computer. I seriously doubt it is in Inyo county, last I heard the county seat could only get a single 384K DSL line for the entire county government to share. Nationally I am sure the same applies in many places. In any case there has to be $$$ in the budget to hire someone to set up a database search and computers to run it on. As tax revenue has plunged at the county property tax level this might be one of the first things to be cut. But, remember in Florida that one party went to court to prevent a list of registered voters from being cross checked and purged. It isn't that simple, and I wish it was. |

YOu think that they are going to reinvent the wheel for every voting district? doubtful. Most likely they build the database and just copy it over to other locations In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

Most likely they build the database and just copy it over to other locations That would mean that there are standards. Standards prevent Chicago style politics. Chicago style politics is how local officials hang on to their jobs. Look at Bell California. No way will standards be allowed. Too much cash at stake. |
