The ones Apple saw no doubt were, however I suspect most of the millions needed for public distribution weren't assembled with the same attention to detail. Also I know from experience that manufactures supplying parts often change the specs without and reference to the customer. Happened to my company twice on extremely important components.

Just so everyone knows that XP service pack 2 is no longer supported as of July 2012.

I had to replace my hard drive in the P4 and after insatlling the OS I went to update at the MS site. No go. you need sp2 and sp3 to be able to talk with them.

After many frustating attempts I was able to download SP 2 and SP3 and was finally allowed to get the latest updates.

So if you like XP do a backup.

Remember after that date there will be no more security updates etc.. So XP could become a hackers paradise!!

Create an XP Update folder, put sp2/3 in it, create an .iso image of your XP installation disk & put that in the folder. Then download this: -

Nlite

Use it to create a slipstreamed XP SP3 disk.

I'd like to point out that when a Microsoft OS goes out of support, they do not cut off Windows Update access, nor do they pull updates from their servers.

When a Microsoft OS goes out of support, they simply stop writing fixes for it. I have been able to update Windows 2000 machines that I rebuild using the Windows Update service without issue.

I was merely pointing it out for people suggesting to keep a cache of updates on their computers which isn't necessary.

On the other hand, I think that something like Win95 its nowaday more safe than any other MS OS... I doubt there is any hacker out there still looking for security issues on that OS...

Actually, I don't think that is a true statement. I'm thinking the hackers do force you to buy new software when the security patches for the old software run out.

You can choose to unplug yourself from the net to be more secure. You can choose to pay a network or security professional to keep you secure, as I did at my former job where they were still running MS Office 2000.

And In my case that was true. Old hard drive versus SATA hard drive. Had to do a lot of adapting but the thing is running. And it was for me, At a reasonable price.

Computers are like airplanes. They can fly as long as you can find or make parts. But eventually comes the day when it just costs to much have them fly.

Well, not literally forced, but things broke over time... sooner or later you will need to replace something in your computer and it wont be easy to find compatible replacements at reasonable prices...

A savvy shopper can find things cheaper than buying a new computer (depending on the specs of that new computer). Never underestimate the motivation to keep what one is comfortable with.
