I use Classic Shell for that. When using it with Windows 8 you can configure it so you go straight to the desktop. Which I think is the default setting when install in 8.

Vupen brags about Windows 8 hack

French IT security company Vupen has bragged on Twitter that it already has a Windows 8 exploit on offer. Apparently, the exploit combines several unpatched (0-day) security holes in the new version of Windows and the bundled Internet Explorer 10 browser to inject malicious code...

Windows works for a LOT of people. I have 2 machines I can boot to Linux on and that works for me. I use both for different things. However if and when Linux becomes mainstream it will have problems

I run Windows XP,Vista,Win 7, Win 8, SBS 2008/2011, Server 2008/2012, WHS, Solaris 10 Enterprise, Linux Mint 13, with Win 8 & Mint being VM's.....

....& my point being...so what, I run what I want/need to run without lambasting the various O/S's.

If I have a problem, I ask the various O/S guru's for assistance. However, some linux guru's have shown that they're that superior that providing assistance is beyond them.

Nice advertising for that O/S.

You are still missing the point. If I want to discuss Linux & learn/debate/knock it,

I post in your linux thread which has many useful tips. One thing I do not do is to rubbish your thread with Windows is great & linux is crap issues, so I would expect a so called Linux guru to show some consideration: -

Merely counterpointing what appears to be blatant advertising for Microsoft and Windows8 in a forum dedicated to number crunching s@h work units. There are many other systems other than just "Windows". Perhaps "Politics" is a more appropriate forum for this thread, just as where the parallel Linux thread got kicked.

My own personal opinion is that there are three significant aspects for Microsoft Windows:

1: There is the general opinion that you must use "anti virus" programs to "secure" Windows systems;

2: And the manufacturer of Windows also sells "anti virus" products and 'after-care' security updates and support to patch over the security holes in the original product...

3: Is the "no class actions" clause in the latest Microsoft EULA 'valid' and enforceable?...


This could be an interesting addition to the ongoing legal MAD wars...
