Democracy died last night here in the U.S. A new beginning must be right around the corner!

Guy, we are watching the formal implementation of plutocracy.

Plutocracy (from Ancient Greek ploutos, meaning "wealth", and kratos, meaning "power, rule") is rule by the wealthy, or power provided by wealth.

The term plutocracy is generally used to describe these two distinct concepts: one of a historical nature and one of a modern political nature. The former indicates the political control of the state by an oligarchy of the wealthy. Examples of such plutocracies include the Roman Republic, some city-states in Ancient Greece, the civilization of Carthage, the Italian city-states/merchant republics of Venice, Florence, Genoa, and pre-World War II Empire of Japan zaibatsus.

Historically and by the nature of their existence, wealthy minorities have always exerted influence over the political arena. In the modern era, democracies around the world permit fundraising for politicians, who rely heavily on such income for advertising their candidacy to the voting public.

So what's new? Did I miss something?

Chris, what is new is that it is now a legal form of govt. in this country.

Nar, didn't miss much. But by the time this financial debacle has played itself
out the American electorate will be deciding on Americas future and not it's
wealthy brigade...they wont have the spare cash to use to buy into hence influence
the outcome like they have done in the past.

Well, If America goes down the drain, then Europes fortunes are just small change ...

Naturally so...still 3 & 1/2 years to go before we start to come out of all
this. Unfortunately interest rates have most probably hit their lowest point,
on government & corporate bonds anyway. Batten down the hatches for soon cash
will be king, but not much else will around it.

I think the UK will be OK. We will ditch the EU as and when it suits us, and we will keep the USA at arms length if we have to. Done it before, we'll do it again.

Maybe so, but that implies our "leaders" know what they're doing, so let's assume that's a "given"...

...WHY IN HELL are they allowing this fraud to continue? They must know the damage being done.

Sorry, but I agree with Nick here, the sooner it's resolved the better, for everyone's sake.

Could be other problems here that we have not thought of. The level of fraud
around the ECM budget is quite high. If the ECM fails then the books will
get opened. So one can see why the Brussels lot will defend both the Euro and
the ECM to the death. So if the Euro dream ends up going down the pan there's
sure going to be some people spending quite some time behind bars.

The people concerned have already seen the writing on the wall & either are preparing or have prepared for the eventual collapse of the Euro.

Cameron calls for action

All this guy wants to is fix the issues with the Euro - impossible, everyone knows it was broken to start with.

Nick stated that there could be another 2 to 3 years begore we see the end of the recession - maybe so, & if that is the case, it'll still be at least another 5 years on top of that before full recovery has been attained.

So that equates to a total of 12 years. Think it would have been a lot simpler for all in the Eurozone to just return to their own currencies - the pain would have been sharper but lasting a hell lot less that the current pain.

ECB states that they see a gradual recovery

"Mr Draghi told European politicians in Brussels last week that the euro's basic set-up is "unsustainable" and urged them to work out a long-term vision for strengthening the euro's basic institutions over the next few years".

And it's only now they stating this? They've known for a considerable time, yet continued to flap about like headless chickens.

But it always was virtually legal to all intents and purposes anyway wasn't it?

Chris, not this blatantly. And no this open use of money to influence elections was limited by law until quite recently.

Nick, until our supreme court changes the plutocracy will remain in power. As long as they remain in power the mind set of the court will not be changed.

Cameron warns Merkel

Even though the main article is relevant, ignore it...scroll down to the side box where it states "France ignores Austerity"

In Round 1 Germany refused to bailout the weaker members

Half-time Germany 1 France 0

in the 90th minute, France equalises

Full time Germany 1 France 1

It seems that today's leaders are either totally ignorant & only want their noses's continuously stuck in the troughs or they are choosing to ignore history.

Greek right-winger attacks rivals on TV

French unemployment reaches 10%

Osborne "optimistic" on Euro crisis Think he's the only one in the country then.....

New calls for EU "Referendum"

At least one politician has seen the light...

"Tory Douglas Carswell will attempt to use a private member's bill to repeal the legislation which led to the UK joining the European Union.

He said: ''Getting Britain out of the EU is legally straightforward. Economically, it is increasingly desirable.

''Politically, it is no longer easy to dismiss as pie-in-the-sky.'' "

Too little too late!

What's the point of doing this when they need at least 100 billion euros?

How long will 2.1 billion last them in the mess they're in?

If the events surrounding the Maastrict treaty is anything to go by, I feel that we should really start worrying.....

Cameron's Euro Pledge

"He replied: "The British people have this guarantee - and it is now written into law by this Government"

So we don't have to worry about what happened to Ireland & the Maastrict Treaty then....Phew, that's a relief!

Is Mr Cameron growing big ones? We'll see.....

Cameron says "Nein"

However, the Mekon Queen just won't give up......

"She said: “We need not just a currency union, we also need fiscal union, more common budget policies. We need above all a political union.”

So the Mekon Queen wants a political union run by Greece, Spain, Italy and France -- no problemo <g>

...too many stupid regulations on the books.....

...haven't they got anything better to think of in Brussels?

Here is the deal, the only flights with 2 pilots would be the ones totally populated with Eurozone officials. We know there are thousands of them -- let them travel to the US more often.

Better yet, this is the Eurozone -- require that those flights have NO pilots that can speak English -- only Greek.
