Just saw this - http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=6766 - over in the message boards. Can any of you Mac OS X Unix gurus do something similar for us? C Join Team MacNN |

yes u can, at the boinc download page, there is a link to 3rd party boinc downloads, and this would be where it points ya to go to http://members.dslextreme.com/~readerforum/forum_team/boinc.html for Team MacNN compiles, get the latest version of boinc and also get the Seti Worker, and follow the instructions carefully, cause if you do not and start boinc, it will end up downloading a not so good Seti worker for you.. I found the page, but I'm unable to determine which version to download. I'm running a G4 PowerBook (3.3), 1Ghz, 1GB RAM, 60GB HD with OS X 10.3.6. I assume I'll need the optimized 4.13 BOINC client at the top of the page, plus the Seti Worker portion of the 4.06 clients, but which one - the 7400/7410 or the 7450? I can't find these numbers anywhere in my system profile. Also, what will installing the optimized client do to my CPDN WU? C Join Team MacNN |

Hey, well i wouldn't exactly know other than to tell ya that ya should type in the terminal this ioreg -l | grep cpu-version and press return, I myself use a G3 so this is how mine looks, ioreg -l | grep cpu-version | | | "cpu-version" = 00082214 the above #'s will be in brackets but since this is html, i had to delete them. I would also suggest ya look at the very bottom of the page cause that is where the AltiVec optimized compiles are of the seti worker for the G4 and G5... and then after doing that ioreg, post it on the Team MacNN forums they should point you to the right one.... but my guess would be ya should use the 7400/7410 Seti worker compile, but that is just my guess, i would highly suggest for ya to be sure with the help of the other guys on Team MacNN.. =) Matt.. > Thanks, Matt. Come on!!!! You have a G3 and try running a compile for a G5. G3, G4, G5 are Processors types and not optimation levels. Keith Keith J. Schultz schultzk@uni-trier.de |

Has anyone figured out how to take advantage of the -fast gcc option? Note: Non-G5 users must preceed -fast with the -mcpu=____ option first (Ex: PowerBook 3,5 is -mcpu=7450 -fast) |
