Just talked to Matt. The 6 dead drives were accepted by Seagate's RMA program though they're 'low' on inventory right now, but will send out replacements once they get them in stock. The Lab will also be testing tomorrow (Tuesday) the SATA connector card to see if we can connect the servers to the JBOD and barring that we'll be providing another 3ware card with battery backup so we can get everything up and running. They will also be testing the 10 JBOD Hotswap drives during the outage to make sure they're viable backup drives. More news as I get it. Thanks everyone! OMG....way ta go, speedbump. I was just doing a variation on a Monty Python joke. I wasn't accusing you of not being able to count! It was a feeble reference, so tangential and vague that even the hardest core amongst us may not have recognized it. So, to relive the glory that was the intended joke, and to pay homage to Speedbump and illustrate by way of medieval instant-replay the way in-which he gloriously "snuffed" the remainder of the fund-raising goal, we should all take a moment to reflect and watch the following clip on YouTube; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOrgLj9lOwk May we all learn and be inspired by Speedbump's example. |

OMG....way ta go, speedbump. That was indeed a feeble, tangential, and vague reference. Were I wearing a hat, I would doff it to you, sir! And twice to Speedbump!! David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

Quick bit of news with hopefully more to come today: 1. Looks like the Internal/External card we bought to connect Paddy to the JBOD didn't work which wasn't a surprise as the 3ware card we were trying to use was quite old. We'll be drawing up a new fundraiser for a 3ware card (clone of GeorgeM's card) with battery backup as a result. 2. Monitors are slated to be delivered Friday. More news: 1. Matt snagged the second workstation for himself and asked us for a keyboard that was ergonomic vs the Logitechs we sent in. We just ordered him this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823109148 With that said he confirmed that all 3 of the Keyboards and Mice that Soft^Spirit funded for the lab are currently in use by the Lab. I figured they'd like them. 2. As a bit of a joke I also added to the order: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16848021407 This is for Dan's desk which you can see in the picture below. Just FYI I reimbursed the GPUUG for this purchase which you can view by visiting http://www.gpuug.org/donationlist (Hint it's the $25 donation to the general fund). Somewhere among this rubble is where I'm hoping the tray will go: (Photo Credit Matt Lebofsky) 3. The above total was $53.97 which came from our General Fund which we use for small, quickly needed purchases. You can track this purchase as usual by visiting http://www.gpuug.org/purchases That's all for now everyone. Thanks! Executive Director GPU Users Group Inc. - brad@gpuug.org |

back when I worked for a living I usually went with 4 of those things... 1: Incoming 2: Working on/waiting on something 3: FUBAR(I have no idea how I am gonna get this mess cleaned up) 4: Outgoing(needs to go elsewhere or filed) And yes I do see a certain humor when such things need a fundraiser. Do they need more colored pens as well? Janice |

Bit more news. This goes back to our first fundraiser on Nov 1, 2011 which was for a SATA dock that could support 3TB drives for astropulse data. http://www.gpuug.org/purchases?page=1 Excerpt from Matt's Email today: Speaking of data drives, you'll be pleased to know those 3 TB drives are now in circulation (finally got the other dock down at the telescope which can read >2TB drives). Kinda neat to see some of our donor supplied hardware at the telescope (Arecibo) itself. ETA @Soft^Spirit not sure about the other office supplies but I'll ask. The Lab guys are super bashful about asking for anything. Executive Director GPU Users Group Inc. - brad@gpuug.org |
