Actually, the safest people were sitting in the helicopter. High energy parts (like pieces of rotor) tend to move out. Quickly. The camera guy is the lucky one.

Gives new meaning to shake your booty.
That helicopter suffered from what is called ground resonance. Here is an example test done by Boeing.
