I can only hope and pray that the succession goes smoothly and does not lead to further conflict between the two Koreas. As the saying goes....the world will be watching. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

If its any indication of how bad things are in NK, Jong il's 3 rd son will be running the show. Apparently. his first 2 boys are slackers and have become fat lazy westernized slobs In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

I wonder who really runs that country? One would hope that the new leader would take this opportunity to open up his country and join the rest of the world. I suspect it's the entrenched military that shall really be calling the shots. If Jong Un tries to make any gestures that they consider too far from the usual hard line stance, there could be problems with him taking control. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Like in any dictatorship, the new leader will have to impose himself by destroying a few people. He will send them to educational camps or they will be invited for vacations in the other world. Otherwise, the entire north Korean regime will be in jeopardy. It’s a family business, and for sure there are some members of the copula that ambition the power for themselves, for sure china will have a word on it, as it’s because of the Chinese intervention, that the Korean war, ended in the way we know. Nevertheless Both Koreas are artificial states, and I believe that like happened in Germany, the Korean People have the right of being one nation again. |

The difference is that South Korea has only minimal influence from it's allies and is fully integrated into the community of nations. They also have a duly elected government. Then you also know that the South Koreans want us there too. It may just be possible that those 30,000 troops are a big reason why North Korea hasn't over run the South. There are perhaps 10,000 artillery tubes aimed at Seoul which is within range of the North's guns. If they attacked we might just cut off their free food and oil. |

I don't think the world really wants another Vietnam. Thankfully, the world will never know another Vietnam. On the other hand, the alternative, which may be coming, is worse. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

I don't think the world really wants another Vietnam. Don't you mean another Korea. We still are officially at war with the North. Remember it was a UN sanctioned war and no actual papers were signed ending the war. Technically, we are just in a really long cease fire. On a happier note, If the north really decided to come south it would have its forces beaten down by the US and ROK warplanes then as they attempted to cross the worlds largest mine field they get their fill of good old US and ROK artillery. whatever forces the North had left after the first week would then be hit with the souths ground forces. I think we could be having a nice 100 hours war like the first Gulf war ended up being. Remember that the North has a very large army but all its equipment is Chinese and Soviet era cast offs. This would be equivalent to the Pre Gulf wars Iraqi Military. Not exactly a match for a modern army In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

If only that were true .... All the North need do is fit a few 1/4 working nukes, which they have, on some of those cast off missiles or artillery shells and lob them the few miles across the border into Seoul and they have won. Not one soldier even need cross the border. They destroy the economic engine of the south and contaminate the land. As so much of the western world's tech is made there, we run out of stuff long before we can build factories in the USA to replace it. If we retaliate, the Red Chinese will hack us to a halt even before they unleash their hordes upon us. Never mind if they blockade Taiwan. We already know they can jam our GPS and make our own bombs fall upon us! We have already lost and the reason is Windows security holes and NIMBYism. The Chinese are right, we are soft. |

I think China would like to be rid of North Korea as much as the rest of the world if they could find a way to help it happen without it looking that way. If China wanted to end the NK regime, China would have done it long ago. It is in China best interest to have like a tampon area between SK and Chinese Borders, and NK is perfect for that. Also do not forget that was the Chinese intervention in the xmas of 1950 that lead to the situation that we currently had, as UN and US forces where completly caught of guard. It's sad, that today this situation is still the same since the cease fire in 1951. Also true that any attempted of military intervention by NK against the south will be crushed by the SK and US Army in the region, but no victory will be acomplished without the endorsement of PRChina. Meanwhile, NK is starving is own people so the army can have their nuclear toys. Just sad, that still mankind as a lot to learn in the resolution of conflicts. |

China would certainly love to get rid of NK. NK has been nothing but a thorn in China's side for 60 years. China has been forced to prop up the Regime to maintain its Communist credentials. Other than that NK is a drain on China. It is forever sending oil and food to them. What does it get? Grief. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

really "trained" ninja assassins. I assume these Japanese Ninjas provided their bonfides to prove they were actually trained Ninja assassins and not just ordinary ninja assassins In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |
