If you need assistance, I already pointed everyone away from this News forum to the proper places. See my previous post. |

Lack of work to do, and err, endless intermittent server problems that render my efforts futile! Compared to other projects, SETI@Home's infrastructure is woeful. I'm going back to computing for clean water; for a cure for cancer; for a cure for muscular dystrophy; for a cure for AIDS. At least these actually work, and might actually bear fruit some day. Oh now I remember why I stopped doing SETI! Lack of work to do, and err, endless intermittent server problems that render my efforts futile! Compared to other projects, SETI@Home's infrastructure is woeful. Perhaps if you read the Number Crunching forum (where you should have posted this rant), you'd better understand the problems. It's not that S@H has less infrastructure than the other projects, it's that it has so many more users. Check the Server Status page. There are 12 servers listed as hosting various services and programs, and the list of servers at the bottom has 13 -- and that's only the ones that the public can see and access for some reason; there are a bunch of others in the background. On the other hand Einstein@Home runs everything -- everything -- on ONE server. Why doesn't it have problems? Because it has far fewer people trying to contact that server. Anway, I do not understand the hotheaded mentality of leaving Seti. Just leave Seti on your machine(s) along with other projects. If you can get work from Seti, great; if not, your computer will automatically get work from whatever other projects you're attached to. There's simply no reason to be huffy about it. I've always said that these updates should be locked so that clueless people can't pollute them. Cheers. |
