A rather curious naming that is going to confuse all and sundry: Boinc music service to launch by year end Beyond Oblivion poised to unveil Boinc music service Too confused to be good publicity? Or just another example of Music Industry nefariousness? Or just simple crass brand hijacking? Can one of the moderators alert Dr A?! There is also a thread on this in the Cafe... Online music site. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

It may be a good thing. Right now, if you google 'BOINC" you get the BOINC homepage at the very top. Even if this music service becomes hugely successful, I would imagine that our BOINC would still be on the first page of any search. talk about ripping a name off. Did they even consider googling the name. We'll be fielding questions by the thousands on how BOINC doesn't play their music. Murdoch has deep pockets. I bet this gets ugly In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

or loads of complaints about BOINC not giving them their music I can see it now.... I have downloaded 500 tunes, and Boinc shows them running, but I can't get the audio to work. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

Just because someone registers a domain, does not always mean that they can carry on using that domain name. They are called Cyber Squatters. For example, within hours of the death of Amy Winehouse, some lovely person registered a domain containing her name, whilst having no connection to her. Things like this are done, in the anticipation of making some money. I hope it won't be long before the domain names are 'seized'. Personally, I'll always connect BOINC with bad programming, rather than music. Don't take life too seriously, as you'll never come out of it alive! |

As far as the website they're running is concerned, I know next to nothing about that field of law. Executive Director GPU Users Group Inc. - brad@gpuug.org |

Perhaps Dr.A should consider this as a potential income stream? For every tune that is downloaded the real BOINC gets a percentage cut. Of course this is on top of any once-off payment required to establish the legal and technical interfaces required. Does anybody know if Dr. Anderson is indeed aware of this issue, and if he has made any response? "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

Mark, Eric was most certainly made aware, and was going to directly inform Dr. A. I assume that he did. I hope one or both of them informed the Regents, as this is above their pay grade. It would be nice to know if that happened and what if anything the Regents have decided to do. |
