Did anyone listen ?

And that is precisely what it's all about. Eric Listened. Even David Anderson Listened (in his own way). 'The world' at large has not listened there are major technological changes afoot.

Slicker at Collatz hasn't listened eithier, but then again his Cuda31 app errors out with Cuda 4 drivers too, and that hasn't been fixed eithier,
not noticed any downclocking problems being reported at Einstein, not sure what's happening there.

Has there been any changes at other GPU projects?

Claggy

I passed on the message to Einstein, and told the developer (Oliver Bock) about it in person when I met him at the recent Open Day in Hannover. Can't do more than that!

Now, now chaps - play nicely!

Remember how NVidia's own app here was overtaken by newer developments - v6.08/v6.09 used 'optimisations' that broke on Fermi hardware? Even the in-house developers can get caught out sometimes - and IIRC, that little bug-ette wasn't revealed in public documentation until well after the silicon had hit the retail street.

That experience should show us that no developer should be complacent with regard to drivers. After all, we're still in the very early development stages of that new breed of hardware - the general-purpose GPU. New models come out all the time, and many of the new ones will be unsupported by the previous generation of drivers - rolling back may not be option.

Mistakes will happen, and this will be added to the list of mistakes to be learned from. I intend to ensure that all parties do learn, and then we can move forwards with even better apps.

LoL, Onya Richard :D. There isn't any 6.10 code or further information on the 'volatile bug' other than me yelling a lot via email & David Anderson emailing me "WTF?' about info under NDA he should really already have known.

Get with the program. You are at the forefront of GPGPU computing and need to step up to the plate & knock more heads together.

Ok, just shut down BOINC and restarted. Yes the line you said to check for is there, so I guess everything is running fine.

Than I recommend not to change too much on that, specially I would not recommend to run any beta apps unless you have fun with testing them. The apps in the installer are the best choise if you just like to get out most of your system.

I'm just running the defaults can I do more optimization for my individual computers (X4, X6 and I3) or should I just use the defaults? I have good graphics cards on the X4 and X6, the Intel laptop sucks.

The most optimization is done by installing the apps, the only computer that might need some fine-tuning ist your X6, the GPU app in particular, look in the installer thread how to get 2 or 3 WUs to run at the same time, don't know which is better. IIRC that should be not necessarey for the GTX 260, or might be even counterproductive.

As to choosing drivers, in addition to the posts above, you might want to look at this post, the results should be comparable to your GTX 260, the 550 Ti might be different however.

OK, doing my inter-project messenger role.

Interesting input at Einstein message 113462. One swallow doesn't make a summer, and I'm not installing anything until it goes WHQL - but that's one small tweet for the 280.19 driver.

I don't mind running Beta programs, heck I developed a few of my own over the years. Now I just manage a computer center and the guys smile and say it's ok Jim we'll fix it, don't touch the servers. :-) I wonder if I could put an Nvidia card in my TRS-80 model 1 :-)

Ok, just so I know, what is a high priority WU that seems to pop up once in awhile?

That means it is being done before other tasks as otherwise it might be late,
(Tasks are normally done in First In, First Out order)

Ok I checked two of the computers and I have tasks that are due by 30 August and it is running tasks that are not due until 10 Oct. What can I do to prevent these tasks from being late? I checked preferences, and don't see any configuration for enforcing this.

In Computing Preferences, if you add a couple of days to 'Computer is connected to the Internet about every' x setting, all your Wu's will be done x days before deadline, just take off x days off the 'Maintain enough work for an additional' setting.
