Once again, this demonstrates the folly of leaving people to own firearms, especially automatic firearms, which killed 90 people, mostly teenagers. Tullio |

Once again, this demonstrates the folly of leaving people to own firearms, especially automatic firearms, which killed 90 people, mostly teenagers. If law abiding folks were armed, this tragedy might have ended before so many innocent lives were lost. But I agree, automatic weapons do not belong in the hands of anybody outside of the active military. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." ![]() |

I may not be the right one to do this.. but on behalf of the Norwegian people, I want to express my deepest condolences to the families directly affected of this - and thats many. I also want to thank the international community for their expression of feeling with us - and our nation in this matter. As a private person, I can not express what I feel. To be witness to a happening like this is worse than the most horrible nightmare. Norway is a very peaceful country. And I will think its one of the countries in the world where people move most freely, and Feel most safe. This is how we know Norway. When something like this happens, its easy to lose the trust in what we belive in.. that freedom and openness is possible, and can and should be the road and the goal. But we can never control everyones minds.. and freedom is also to allow others to have their own ideas and meanings. Though.. how anyone can become so evil, and do this sort of thing - no matter where they are from - is not to grasp. Today Norway is in shock, in grief, and each one of us knows it could have happend to any of us. Norway is a small country.. and to have lost so many of our teenages.. thats something so horrible, we cant even start to take in the meaning of it. To have stated so.. I, and my family are all ok. But there were people gathered from all over the country - and no names are yet released. All Norwegian is deeply moved today - Its the worst thing that has happend to our country since the war. Yet - as also the official Norway has stated: This shall not change our views about having an open and free community. Thank you all. Moon* ![]() |

Thank you for your post, Moonkitten. I share your grief for you fellow countrymen and women. Simple words such as mine cannot quite express...... "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." ![]() |

If this thread can stay here in Cafe Seti, that comment can stay here too. I totally agree with Tullio. And now, if we want we can say more about this in another thread, that's it, and you're right, but Tullio has the right to write this. The very perfect words about this horrible day are ArizonaMoon ones, as usual by her. Moon and some others already knows I've wrote them my condolences, my comment and my sadness. My condolences to the people of Norway as well. Shocking thing to have happen. However, on reading the article linked here..... Norway attacks This quote begs a serious question! "When asked how long it took the SWAT team to arrive at the island after the shooting began, Fredriksen said: 'It takes the time it takes to drive fast.' He said that was about 30 minutes" Don't they have Police or Military choppers on hand for things like this? Surely it would have been quicker & maybe save some lives. The sound of an approaching chopper could possibly have made him stop or run for cover. |

In a peace loving Country like Norway, this response time doesn't surprise me. Nor would this be unreasonble for any county on alert status. You have to have some sort of plan or the rescuers could have been in trouble too. I am sure, we will be getting more details as time progresses. Even in Los Angeles, 30 minutes would not surprise me for a SWAT team. They aren't all sitting in a ready room waiting for a call out. They are in police cars all over the city being regular police until needed. They have to drive to the ready room, put on their SWAT gear and then drive to the scene in the SWAT command post vehicle. Now if it took 30 minutes for the first police officer to get there, that would be a surprise. He likely called for the SWAT response and his rules may forbid him to to anything but take cover. Remember this crazy was dressed as a police officer. Who is who? You don't know all your coworkers on sight in a large force, especially the night shift if you work days. ![]() |

I suspect their legal system has the means to assure he will never see life outside of prison again. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." ![]() |

Nope, he will get out at 53. 21 years is the Maximum sentence no matter how many you kill..... That may only be for one charge....there wil be others....impersonating a police officer, illegal arms etc.... With at least 3 charges at 21 years each, that should be enough to guarantee he dies in prison. |

I don't want to rub salt on Norway's wounds, but on the NYTimes I have read of a family reunion in Grand Prairie, Texas, which ended in 6 deaths. Not to remember the fate of Gabrielle Gifford, US Representative from Arizona, who survived an attack by a gun carrying man using a Glock automatic weapon in which 9 peoples were killed. My condolence to the Norwegian people and to the two Norwegian cyclists, Tor Hushvod and Thomas Boisson Hagen, who ended the Tour de France with a black arm band. Tullio |

There`s too much craziness in this world. And each of these attacks remind us that we have a lot of work to do.. As long as Anyone think violence is the way to achieve what they want, these things will happen. But in fact.. There is only One way to solve it. Each of us has to take responsibility for our Own thoughts and actions. And we have to do our best to give the right impact on our children, and show by all we do, with every human we interact with, that we stand against violence and cruelty. Think about this: As long as we live by the rule that we have to Defend ourself - by all means - we Accept there is violence and insecurity. Only by believing in peace and live as there IS peace, we can have it. Only by inner peace, there can be outer peace. Thats also why this happening shall Not change our way to live our daily life here in Norway. ![]() |

Nope, he will get out at 53. 21 years is the Maximum sentence no matter how many you kill..... yes, but after 21 years they can keep him in prison for 5 years more if they think he is dangerous, and after five years, they can do it again and again. |

I totally agree with Arizona Moon. We have had violence here in Italy too but we survived without special laws affecting our liberties. Now there are people calling for violence against immigrants, especially Islamic immigrants. We all have to combat this doctrine of hate and go back to the teachings of Christ. Tullio |
