what is this Cricket graph you guys are talking about?

Cricket graph. Green=DL, Blue= UL. It lets us know what the trafic is like in and out of Seti and is often a better indicator of problems then the server status page.

Hi Willem!

Your computer is most probably working fine. It's the Seti servers that are having trouble. Check back here around 20:00 Central European Time and everything should be ok.

Hmm... I am beginning to wonder if it's not BOINC. The reason I say this is that since the last update, my uploads always wind-up in the "Transfers" section and stay there. I need to "abort" all of them, move to "projects" and select "update". At that time, all of the work units are uploaded. I also noticed that my daily average (graph) is much lower since the last BOINC update. Nothing changed computer wise on this end.

Regarding the recent BOINC update, I deplore the fact that they moved the "Event Log" from a direct "one click" tab to a sub-function under the "Advanced" section.

No, the fact that you aborted them is reported at that time. Aborting the uploads simply throws away the work that has been done. Uploading is not possible now due to server problems, so we just need to wait for repairs.

Sorry... I think you're acting too liberal... When you "Abort" something YOU LOOSE IT... it's the same here: aborting workunits means loosing them FOREVER... DON'T DO THAT! Just wait for S@H servers to be ready to assimilate them... Be patient... The time will come soon... It always does.

Abort means to just throw away all the work you just did! Please don't abort things until you are sure the servers aren't having problems. That is the case right now, it's not BOINC. Uploads have always "moved" to the transfer tab, it's probably just that you hadn't noticed before because they are usually pretty fast and rarely stack up. A quick look at the Cricket graphs makes it very clear that nobody is getting uploads through right now (or at least not many). Just be patient.

Regarding the recent BOINC update, I deplore the fact that they moved the "Event Log" from a direct "one click" tab to a sub-function under the "Advanced" section.

That was my initial reaction too, but it does have some advantages. I think it's mostly just getting used to it.

Edit:
Heh, I guess there are an unusually large number of hopeful souls trolling the boards right now! Sorry, didn't mean to gang up on you, Flashfox-2!

I would like to place a nod of agreement to this sentiment. A little statement of current status on the home page would be helpful as the server status page obviously does not tell the whole story.

If that would present itself as a pain, perhaps the "Project Status" idea would be more efficacious.

Just my two cents.

What would be good is an extra message board called "Project Status" where Admins, and say trusted others like Josef and Richard H etc could post messages like "As of xx.xx UTC there are no uploads/downloads due to server problems.

As you said, people don't look at the main page. If they don't look at that, then the odds of them finding anything else remotely appropriate are non-existant.
All the noise in these threads are proof of that.

More problematically, everyone using the now-recommended BOINC v6.12 will be seeing Notices for the first time - and the newest notice they'll see says "storage service is back up". That's misleading, to put it mildly, under the current circumstances. No wonder they post in the linked News thread "if the service is up, why am I having problems up/downloading. Is it me?". I'll probably write to David about that.

How about a section of the site that is always visibile no matter which section you're on that shows the current cricket graph & a brief explanation.

I'd prefer a status indicator that requires you must acknowledge it before entering the forums? Sortof like a "You must be 18 to enter this site" page that you see at some other types webpages?

Weekly maintenance is occurring NOW. Do you still wish to enter the forums?

KNOWN Storage issue preventing downloads of new work units. Do you still wish to enter the forums?

I am getting a significant stack up of upload ready files that aren't going anywhere. It is 6 June and I cannot find any new info about the servers. Two of my uploads are high priority files and I pushed my systems to beat the deadlines and now here we sit waiting for upload. Any new news on this issue/

They're going as fast as they can. I just managed to get the last of my uploads through and got a bunch of downloads. Check your transfers page and see if your backoff might be holding you back. If so, you might try hitting the retry now button.

Don't worry....you should still receive credit even if you report the workunit after its deadline unless another computer completes the quorum first which I doubt.

Yes it seems a bit strange to include "notices" in the latest version of boinc if the "notice" they give is totally out of date. Whilst trying to be helpful this has in my opinion caused more problems. People who know what is going on don't need it people who don't just get confused. Needs to be removed ASAP

I mainly just wish tech forums was staff-only. The only reason I come to tech news is to have.. you know, NEWS. Really frustrating seeing "Last post 2 minutes ago", and finding out that its just someone whinging and moaning about about a non-related issue (even if it's a related issue, it's still not tech news from the people who create the threads)..

Of course, my posting this is adding to the problem, but hopefully also exemplifies it, seeing as this post (which will now make it seem as though the thread has been updated) is in fact entirely irrelevant.

EDIT: also, on that note, having to scroll through the 50-100 replies in a thread to see a -staff- reply is also the reason I wish this to be staff-only (posting in, AND creating threads)

Nice to see you in here Careface!

Anywho, I came home from work to find that almost all my ULs were finally uploaded, but project shows no tasks available.

I hope they get some soon. I have been trying for about 2 weeks to get enough WUs to fill my 10 day que since I added this GTX460 to my main box.
