This is gonna be good, there are clouds in the sky, and we still have some blue in the north part of the sky, and the Aurora is so bright......

Too murky here to see anything, but we were a bit marginal for anything really good.

If you live in Australia you may be able to see the Aurora right now!
Things look good for Scandinavia.

Wow! Time for the lead lined helmets.
This is the biggest I have seen this year! It's a KP 8 event.

We now have a strong geomagnetic storm going on, also aurora has been seen as low as Illinois and Oregon (typically 50° geomagnetic lat.).

It is still light out and the lights in the sky have started already.
It could get all the way down to northern California.
Now I am amazed, the whole sky is covered in light.

Here is a pix of what the lights looked like here in Alberta
We now have TV, power, and internet back in this area.

Who needs TV with a natural light show like that?
Wish I could see them, but I'm too far south.

I HAVE seen them in real-time, once when I was stationed in Scotland, and one other time, when we surfaced the night before entering port at Adak, Alaska.

I forgot that image was taken by
Olivier Du Tré, in
Cochrane, Alberta.
I can hardly wait till I can afford a better camera to put on my scope.
These shots were taken further south than I am.
Lovely work from that person!

Look out down under. If you have clear sky in the south of your countries, look up!

Over SCOTLAND - as the caption says.

ENGLAND is that place down below the boarder (its a bit like mixing up Canada and the USA, only even more life threatening)

(OK, so the article does mention Cumbria).

All we managed in the English Midlands was a faint late night northern horizon glow which was the wrong colour for the street lights which normally despoil our night sky.

Still a massive show in the sky. This went off all over the world down to below 40 degrees north and south latitude.

Hmm, clouds are clearing so there might be a chance of seeing something in a few hours time as the sun is way to bright just now as I sit in my office wearing sunglasses to see the screen! (Its 18:21hrs local time)

We just had an X-ray Solar Flare
M3, on the sun, these can cause aurora at
some later time, 6 - 12 hours I think.
It looks like a good year for light shows,
things could get better.
