And further, the number of resends I got seemed to match the state of my cache/work request - I didn't get them all at once. I seem to remember some concern about the old-style code, which tended to resend everything all at once - leading to obvious problems with download capacity and, in some cases, cache handling. I see that resends as they are handled here and now get new expiration date - as if they were issued as new ones. I can remember from a couple of months ago that Einstein resends kept original expiration date. I can see positive things in both ways of dealing with lost+found. Metod ... |

I can remember from a couple of months ago that Einstein resends kept original expiration date. If more than half of the original deadline time has elapsed before the resend a new deadline is supplied, otherwise the original deadline is kept. Joe |

The clean up should be just about complete. I'm down to 3,000 pending. I don't think I've seen it that low in years. Join the PACK! |

All right, I'm a bit confused. I always thought the definition of a lost WU was like this: The server sends a WU to computers A and B. A does not return it by the deadline, so it is considered lost and resent to computer C. What you guys seem to be saying is: The server sends a WU to computers D and E, but somehow it either gets lost in transit, lost on D, or the return is lost in transit; all the server knows is it was never returned. Later, D checks in with the server and says "I have no work" (which it won't do if set to NNT) and the server says "you should still be working on this WU" and sends it again. If the latter is correct, it explains why I still have nothing even though I enabled new tasks. It's the latter (without the "lost on D, or the return is lost in transit" part). And you just don't have any tasks, neither normal nor ghost (lost) ones. Gruß, Gundolf |

I'll adjust the server status page once oscar is able to show a green "running" status. Wow! Look at those assimilators go! About 100,000 WUs put away in about an hour! The whole queue of Waiting-for-Assim may be polished off by midnight (Eastern USA time) - only 6 hours from now. |

Not much to add to the game plan so no new thread, but FYI things are chugging along. I hit some snags getting the assimilators rolling today - just some informix network plumbing at first, but then batches of bad result files which cause the assimilators to exit - I see many of you noticed them on the server status page going up and down, but they seem to be staying up for now. No real thoughts about performance yet, but seems like all servers involved thus far aren't really stressed out. - Matt -- BOINC/SETI@home network/web/science/development person -- "Any idiot can have a good idea. Why does "Results returned and awaiting validation" on the server status page also include "Workunits [already validated and] waiting for assimilation"? I'd been wondering why "Results returned and awaiting validation" had been rising recently, but the linked and matching downturns on scarecrow's graphs explain the mystery. 'Awaiting validation' is clearly a partial mis-statement. |
