Since SETI has been out of work to do, I've attached a couple of other projects from the list.

And I have some very odd behavior going on with BOINC.

The "To Completion" clock is counting up, not down. So apparently the longer it works on a unit, the longer it will take to complete, and never get done?

The elapsed time clock sometimes resets itself to zero and starts over, while the to completion clock continues to count up instead of down.

And the progress bar and percentage do not move.

I've rebooted the computer, run Kaspersky, and am thinking of uninstalling BOINC and reinstalling it.

But I thought I'd ask the wiser heads if they have any idea what is happening.

This IS a bad thing, isn't it?[/i]

Not every project application is as well behaved as SETI. Some projects do not checkpoint (so rebooting the machine starts the task over). Some do not update the % complete estimate (so the % complete does not move). Some projects have (grossly) mis-estimated the amount of work that a task really has to do. Note that the mis-estimates can be either way depending on the project. Some projects have been known to be off by 10 orders of magnitude in their initial estimate.

So my computer and version of BOINC are okay, it is just the other projects work units that are FUBAR?

That would be a relief.

I've been running SETI for more than a decade, and never saw anything like this, so I was a bit panic-stricken.

I think I'll figure out how to remove projects as soon as SETI comes back on line. This is just too hard to look at.

It is only some projects that have these problems. The mis-estimates work themselves out over time. The thing to learn is to (mostly) just let it work itself out.

You can remove a project using detach.

Very good information, thank you. And so amazingly fast!

Guess I'll just sit on my hands and try to avoid looking at them.

Thank you.

{Stickler}That would be like giving an estimate of one minute but instead it takes over 19,000 years.

One order of magnitude perhaps?{/Stickler}

I've already, unfortunately, seen them off by two orders of magnitude.

Cannot wait until it works itself out. VERY annoying.
