Well thinking Glenn's "buy gold, the sky is falling" well past when it made fiscal sense, and that gold prices have long since passed any reasonable valuation, my technical analysis of the chart on GLD(the gold metal ETF) I agree that gold is now reaching the point of risky. The fed is dumping 600 billion into the economy over the next 6 months which could result in up to 20% inflation over time but as you suggest gold may have reached the point where it's overvalued. Over the short term gold may be safe but I would be careful about the long term. It all depends on the Republicans making major cuts in spending. If they don't, ignore what I just said. |

It all depends on the Republicans making major cuts in spending. What planet are you living on? Denial? It is utterly impossible to get or be reelected by cutting spending. If you cut spending you have less people who can give you a kickback to use on campaign advertising. You need more kickbacks so you have to spend more. This is how the system works! |

they all like to spend. It just varies what they want to spend on. Janice |

It all depends on the Republicans making major cuts in spending. It has been done very effectively in the past and reelection was assured. My proof is here. Besides that, other than government workers, who cares if a bunch of government workers lose their jobs? |

for every job you do away with from a major corporation or government, you can count about 10 other jobs going away with it. We need more jobs, not fewer. This would be a great time for government sponsored wind and solar farms. Janice |

And that is what is wrong with America. The Red Chinese are correct, we are too damn soft. A couple of million wasted, and on what? Feel good?! Oxycontin is cheaper. Face it the kid never was going to produce, he was a parasite. Cut the parasites off. Darwin applies. Without parasites we are stronger and more fit. And your social Darwinism applies to someone such as Stephen Hawking how? And who do you suggest be in charge of deciding who makes the decision of who is a parasite and who is not? Have we ever seen someone some, or many, might label as a parasite eventually redeem themselves and become a great benefactor? Hmmm ... I think we could turn up aat least one in such a search. |

he control the evil jews who were running the business that were keeping the german people down, Your attempts at rebuttals of Dena aren't much better. Your tone is quite a bit worse, and you toe a "party line" as well as she does, just not the same party. I find most of your posts as frustrating to read as Dema's, even when I agree with your basic premise! |

for every job you do away with from a major corporation or government, you can count about 10 other jobs going away with it. We need more jobs, not fewer. Government jobs take away from the capital available for industry to expand. Government jobs are nothing other than a money sink. You need some government but it is best when kept small. As for the great hope of wind or solar, look at we are about to receive link. Think anybody is going to want to use green california power? |

For years I have been trying to understand how people could fall under the spell of Hitler and I still don't fully understand it. Then you don't have to worry. Barack has been saying "Uhhh ... uhhh .uhhh ..." enough times that eventually it can become at least slightly annoying, and thus begin to be comparable to George W. Bush's several verbal gaffes. :) |

What exactly is the cost of wiping out all life as we know it due to excessive C02 in the atmosphere? oh never mind, that is not this quarters issue. Janice |

It all depends on the Republicans making major cuts in spending. IE, you don't like either party? Seriously, I think it is time for other offices besides the presidency to have 2 term limits. Senators, Representatives ... . Now, do we agree, and if so, how do we do it? Certainly, we can't let them vote on it in Congress. |

It all depends on the Republicans making major cuts in spending. Sure, let some professors at a state university go, and force the students to be crammed into the larger classes with fewer professors. Or, hire someone with less experience that you can pay less. |

For years I have been trying to understand how people could fall under the spell of Hitler and I still don't fully understand it. That's how you tell if Obama is reading the teleprompter. When he is off it, his style goes to pot. I don't object to him doing that, I do object to him being called a great speaker because he is instead a great reader. |

for every job you do away with from a major corporation or government, you can count about 10 other jobs going away with it. We need more jobs, not fewer. In my state (california) we have some of the highest education cost and some of the lowest test scores. I don't have a problem paying for quality but we are not getting it. Before the twentieth century schools were private in this country. The progressives were the ones pushing for pubic schooling. I think the problems started when when teachers decided that they could experiment with untested teaching methods and they didn't pay a price for failure because they were protected by government and the union. I suspect we have many teachers who deserve every cent they earn and more, but we have many who should be nowhere near our children. |

I suspect we have many teachers who deserve every cent they earn and more, but we have many who should be nowhere near our children. The same could be said of clergy. Bottom line is we need to 1: kick start future industry 2: get employment rolling so that 3: people can start paying taxes again, afford to buy what they NEED and have a better life. Oh yeah, having industries where we can actually export things besides jobs and raw materials would be good too. Janice |

Even today I find it hard to believe that such a group could exist for so long without the public knowing about it, but part of the reason is that they put themselves in the education system and teach the ideas of socialism without teaching the full history of it. The student walks away with the wonders of socialism without all the evils and they have another convert. Really? And just what connection do you have with a current education system, allowing you to draw this connection? (EDIT: replace connection with conclusion.) The following is a description of a course all are currently required to take at the college I attended as an undergraduate: This course examines episodes of cultural collision, moments when different world views-ideas about human origins, cultural values and practices, systems of politics, theories of science-come into contact with one another. We will study instances of cultural collision and exchange in order to consider some fundamental questions: How are human knowledge, values, and beliefs shaped? How do they evolve and spread? What can we learn about the values and belief systems of different cultures when they come into contact with one another? What can we learn about ourselves by exploring our encounters with other cultures? When I was an undergraduate, we had to take three of these courses, 1 in each of our first 3 years. When I took the junior level course, my professor was a known Socialist. By your way of thinking, all of us poor, mindless (and insert numerous other adjectives) college kids were easily duped by the guy, all walking across the graduation stage a year later converted to socialists. How very wrong you'd be, if that's what you think. He was vigorously debated against. (And I'm sure many others just shut down than allow themselves to be even exposed to Marx for a portion of the semester, because the Wall was still up ... it came down during my time as an undergrad ... and their parents and grandparents most likely spoke of socialism/communism in a manner similar to what you say about it.) Even those that walked away thinking there was some grain of truth to what Marx wrote pretty much realized that there have been no major successes of socialism. That sentiment was recently echoed by a 23 or 24 year old I met in the past year, now in a different part of the country, in what has been known as "Red State." To paraphrase him, "It's a nice idea, but it hasn't and never will work because people will always screw it up." He and I are about a generation apart, have very different backgrounds, etc. ..., and this young adult (what do we call his Generation? Z?) has come to the same conclusion. A convert of the educational system? I think not. I doubt there are nearly as many "converts" as you suspect. But I have to ask, in all your reading of original documents, have you read Marx? Do you dare? At the very least, you need to see how it was one of the major responses to the topsy-turvy world we were thrown into as a result of the Industrial Revolution, roughly beginning say around 1820 (?)and Marx responding within 30 to 50 years. You need to see it to understand the counter-responses, and the ensuing debate to all out battle that has ensued in the 160 years since. Two things in closing: remember that Marx did not believe socialism could be introduced by governments, but by the proletariat in revolt. Second, various things I have read from other sources suggest they want the same end goals as the Socialists, but differ on how those ends should be brought about. In fact, some would rather God do it. |

Hmmm, I happen to know quite a bit about testing of teaching methods. Care to discuss an issue of major debate in California from the late 90s? :) |
