Government Building?

It used to be a government building. While it is still owned by a government, it currently is not what most people would consider a government building.

A minor hint:

The government for which it was a functioning building has not been in force in the area since 1848.

The building is on the short list of places you must see when you visit the town/city.

Fort Worth was in Texas the last time I looked at a map. The building is not in Texas as it is West of Texas.

Another hint (obtuse of course).

During WWII, entire convoys of trucks were delivered to PO box 1663 in the town/city.

Very droll, John.

PO Box 1663 throws us off scent to Los Alamos.

But the url of your picture tells us that it's actually the Palace of the Govenors in Santa Fe.

Very good, you got it.

Post Office Box 1663 was in Santa Fe, but it was the delivery address for Los Alamos.

Thanks, John. Everybody, take care if you visited that link for the Palace of the Govenors before I deleted it. Some pages on the site seem to have been hacked with a fake virus warning.

So, here we go again. And to avoid John's mistake with the url, here's another of my collection of prints, freshly scanned tonight.

This has a one-word answer. The mountain in the background is synonymous with the name of the city it dominates.

I delayed last time to give America a chance. So this time, no clues until Europe wakes up. Anyway, I'm going to bed now ;-)

Reprise of the rules.

The winner of the previous round posts a picture and a question about it. Typically "where.

You may not use "tin eye" or similar reverse image look up sites.

Please do not use XCIF data from the image to help. (note to posters, please remove XCIF data). This can include titles and location data.

Please do not allow 24 hours to pass between clues.

Questions deserve an answer (with the exception, of course, of directly asking for the answer).

We will have to figure out how to deal with winners that go AWOL.

Clues may be text or photographic.

Contestants may use text searches to look for images (in particular images.google.com is allowed to be searched via text searches).

There is no rule about having visited a place. If you have visited a place (or not) and instantly recognize where the picture is, go for it.

Please try to choose a picture and question where it is possible someone else will know or be able to research your answer. For example a picture of someone in your family and asking for the name will be just impossible for anyone else to get.

PM The winner.

If we are going to have rules, I think they should be followed.

Just sayin'

Gary, I think all Richard meant by this is that it was to late to answer further questions. John will have his answer on Richard's morning.

Good morning everyone.

I guess Gary was actually drawing the attention of a n00b in this thread to the way I answered John's previous challenge, highlighting the rule against XCIF data. (Actually, shouldn't that be EXIF data?) I assumed it meant the GPS geotagging or similar data from a digital camera. I was just having a bit of fun at John's expense (sorry, John) by pointing out his challenge could be solved by use of no more sophisticated technology than the 'quote' button:

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h206/John_McLeod_VII/palace-of-the-governors-santa-fe-nmsfport.jpg

And after that, his question deserves an answer: Yes.
