I woke up this morning to find that I had started getting a trickle of WU's. Could the drought be over? ![]() In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

I got some work assigned to the crunchers by the scheduler, but can't seem to download any of it right now. Fortunes of war, I suppose. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." ![]() |

Just took a trip down memory lane as it were. Looked through the tasks I got with a 3, 4, or even 5 on them. Most had started life on 5 July, timed out on the 21st of August and then timed out again on the 6th of October. Two ghost cycles plus a few aborts and abandoned. Well, at least I've got them now and they shall be done. I guess I should say I think I got them all. I haven't checked to see if any of them went to ghost on me again yet. ![]() PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |

And........wow......this is a blast from the past. I was trying to remember an artist that I heard as a young lad a week or two ago. It just now came to me........ Bent Fabric.....Alley Cat. It always comes back to me somehow. A dear old departed uncle took me to the tavvy when I was sooooooo a youngster.. I marveled at the way the juke worked........ And this was the song it played. If my BOINC-Preferences-network usage are right... Finished all the tasks using ten-days cache. Last contact 24 Oct. How the buffers are for 10 days if I have nothing more to work after 4 days? Maybe it's just about the latest crashes of SETI dbs. I suppose for next few weeks - until the new SETI server(s) will be ready - I am running out of work. It's that true? PS: sorry for my stupid question: what mean "ghosts"? Thanks Mens sana in corpore ETI & Maze ![]() |

Iulian, Last question first, ghosts are work unit that were supposed to be sent to you but due to a mistake they didn't make it from the server to your computer. They don't show up in your BOINC Manager but do show as in progress on your web based tasks page. For the first question, Jeff posted over in the tech news forum that they have decided to keep the project down until they get the new servers up, and ready to go. We wont be getting any new work for about a month if everything goes right or maybe a bit longer if the run into teething problems. We can upload our work now and should be able to report shortly but wont download anything new. The forums will be up for us though so it wont be a total loss until we are back up. ![]() PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |

from the way i read they were discussing what to do until the new servers are up and running. Did I miss something? |

Until the new servers are up, uploads and reporting are enabled, downloads are disabled, forums and website will be up. ![]() |

I saw that! Perryjay was saying no new work until the new servers were running. All i can see on tech news is that they were discussing the next step. No mention of stopping new work issues yet. |

Yup, no new work until new servers are up. At least that's my understanding of the situation. From Jeff: We've decided to keep the project down until the new servers are up and running and the databases migrated to them. Granted, he doesn't say "no new work," but that's what I understand "keep the project down" to mean. ![]() |

Jeff just posted this a few minutes ago in the News forum... The machine that was running the main BOINC database has become too unreliable to use. The backup server does not have the capacity to run the project on its own.Bold added by me. :-) ![]() PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |
