Best of luck but I am finnished.

You'll be back, as soon as SETI is stable. Many have tried, many have failed.

[waiting for new work...]

We all pretty much agree that we value Seti highest on our project list, for various reasons. (Why else would you be reading this thread, for example.)

But if forced to make a number 2 choice, which other project should we select. I used to run Einstein, but decided to focus my interest on seti. (Perhaps we are at an inflection point with seti and I want to prepared to jump). Einstein seemed to do good work and publishable science (in refereed journals) at the time. But is that best #2 choice? One of my criteria is to contribute to projects that can't get funding otherwise (seti is the archetype). Is orbit a better choice?

Which other project (and if any) is a personal decision.

I refuse to participate in any project involving DNA modeling, or anything else that might lead to GMO products on a commercial level. It is a personal belief thing, and it rules out about 70% of the boinc project.

Calculating numbers.. No interest in. To me a waste of computer time.

CPDN I consider important work. I also found it bug filled (to my computer, not necessarily the project) and annoyingly took 100% of all available CPU time.
Other projects might be important to you. If so have at them. As it is the only thing within BOINC that I wish to participate in is SETI. So I will
take the lumps, sometimes have stuff to crunch, sometimes not. "What about my RAC"... I do not care. I am interested in doing as much as I can for this project. Not others. RAC gives me an idea how well my computers are working.

I am attached to virtual prarie. I have never seen a work unit from them. I currently have it set to "no new work".

I understand the frustration when things are down. Most frustrating to me when the boards are down, but least important to the project. So I endure. I even
considered setting up a website just for seti junkies during outtages. Really not my area of expertise.

There are good people here. During tough times like this.. we can lose some.
If people chase people out, I get very irritable. They do not deserve that.

If we could run Arecibo dry from work units while it is working full time, that would be awesome. But priority right now is the servers. They need some over due TLC, and my understanding is they are now receiving it. So please folks.. patience.

We are one big happy dysfunctional family.

No wonder I feel so comfortable here. A lot like a bunch of submariners or Science Fiction fans I used to (and sometimes still do) hang out with.

So please folks.. patience.

Hey, that's my line! (8{

But you say it so much better than I. So I'll share.

...and what the heck is THAT supposed to mean?

I'm sorry im disabled and cant afford to buy loads of quad core machines like you have done, i'm sorry i suddenly dont have a superiority complex and have my head up my own rear end like you now have...

It's cause of folks like Phud looking down on other folks in THIS FORUM thats giving the "power crunchers" a bad name. I've been in Seti for a good number of years now, dont have a high "score" cause guess what folks...this isnt a game. Again, folks like Phud have totally lost the reasoning behind seti, and it's due to folks like him, that folks like me refuse to take part in these forums, it's nothing more than a back patting session for the folks with high numbers...thats all this forum is, thats all this forum will ever be...

sorry cant agree with you been around sense I first heard about seti in 1999 you will find the occasional self stroking individual but for the most part people are here to help and encourage each other.

sorry to see you go you've done a lot done the project hope you come back soon, I know it gets frustrating with all the down time but we must remember the goal, not an easy task...
