Hello. I wonder how GoodSearch working. In example I write in there header field, word Food and clicking on the search button. After that boinc got little sum of money...? Where the money come from? If I understood correctly, using goodsearch is free of charge to me. If so, I could basically do the bot, which create random search per minute and boinc get free money and I dont lose nothing. Am I right? |

I have looked at Good Search again. There is no account setup for Seti. I have most of the information to start the setup but not all. IT still needs to be verified.... The Terms and Conditions indications that it it is easy to invalidate the fair use by many individuals (they know how to track BOTs designed to bump statistics). In the Good Shop Area the various vendors do offer a percentage of the sale. In order to make it effective, they want eveyone to download "their toolbar." Then do two searches/day. Form one page I viewed it would take about evey Seti User installing the toolbar. That would result in maybe $25000 annually. Additionally they use Yahoo for a search engine. For Yahoo Fans this might bee a good thing. If we really want to ecplore this it would mean that Seti Users would have to get behind it. Regards Please consider a Donation to the Seti Project. |

The kitties would like to post a heads-up, or a reminder for all Seti contributors. Please check with your employer to see if they have a policy of matching donations made to non profit organizations when you contribute to Seti. Many do. I checked with my employer, and unfortunately, they do not. They have a foundation that makes many charitable contributions to our local non profits, and do so very handsomely. But no matching program. You may be able to multiply your funds if your employer has such a policy in place. It does not cost you anything to ask. Meow. I know I'm new and probably speaking out of turn but if everyone donated the minimum ($10.00) once a year this project would evolve exponentially. Everything in this world operates on a price tag unfortunately but if we all band together and do what we can we will have a lot more resources at our disposal and fewer worries that the project will have to shut down due to fiscal reasons. Grants stop coming sometimes and we all should keep that in mind as I imagine SETI@HOME (Berkeley) does constantly. I sincerely apologize if I sound like I'm talking down to everyone, please believe me it is not my intent. I just want to see this awesome project flourish and run unabated. Thank you very much, Brendan |

Brendan........Dear Brendan. You are not speaking out of turn. Your thoughts have been postured before. I had the fine opportunity to stage a couple of fund drives for the project that netted some 30 thousand dollars. I am afraid to say the may never happen again. There was a distinct need for new servers, and other users saw and responded to that. What some don't respond to is the need for day to day upkeep. That is too mundane. So, it does not get the emotional response that I got when trying to keep the project upright. Yeah.......$10.00 a year from most of the users........wouldn't that be grand? I have been a green star user for years......and intend to be so. It is kinda disturbing to me to see other users in the top 20 computer rankings without a star. They, of all people, could afford it. Pony up, guys. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

Brendan: No, you are not talking out of turn. Many of us here have suggested the same thing at one time or another - great minds think alike? In a more-perfect world... Not all the folks who participate in S@H are able to donate even $10 a year. Their donation of unused computer time may be the best they can do, and that IS also a valuable contribution. Despite the annual fund-raising email recently sent out, not all who participate realize just how much S@H depends on donations from users to keep it running. Most of them do NOT read these forums, they just run the program on automatic. Fortunately, enough folks like you and me DO read these message boards, and give what we can when we can, and occasionally dig deep to help deal with a crisis. So as long as we are here, and can help, S@H will continue. Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |

Good morning. Is the project still in need of 750GB bricks to move data? If so is there a limit (10, 50, 100 ...) and a particular model? I may have access to some used and I will ensure they are purged and in good working order. Thanks and have a good day. Rich |

Welcome to the boards Brendan and thank you for your donation. Since my tax refund will be a bit larger this year, Seti will get a small share of it. Pluto will always be a planet to me. Seti Ambassador Not to late to order an Anni Shirt |

I have decided to reduce my electric bill and donate the difference to SETI. This will result in a reduction of my RAC of about 2 - 2.5k and a yearly donation about $150 to $200 PS: for those wondering why I don't have a star, my donations go to S@NL, which donates aprox. every year to Berkeley through our founder account. This is the way I use to donate, since it is TAX deductible (as I donate through my company). The SETI@Home Gauntlet 2012 april 16 - 30| info / chat | STATS |
