I still as of yet have been able to download 1 wu from Berkeley... always "not enough disk space" even though I try everyone's suggestions in my preferences to correct this for my Mac. I just want to see how Boink works with seti, I'm not in it for the numbers.

There's still things to be worked out with Boink, so just be patient (like I have... ever since downloading Boink from day one of the release :p *waves flag of help to Berkeley* heheh).

Peace,
Eric

Cool down the hot heads?
ha ha ha.. thats BRILLIANT!

Its the new slogan for a new generation! If THAT doesn't belong on a Tee-shirt, I don't know what does!

At any rate, yes... We're all still waiting. Some people may have gotten some WU's but I will venture to say that most haven't..

So we wait.

What are your settings in your general preferences for the disk usage?

Use no more than ... GB
Leave at least ... GB
Use no more than ... % of total space

Also, when you pull up that computer in your account, what does it show for "free disk space"?

Try reentering the leave at least preference on the web. The input routine sometimes has problems if the leading zero is omitted, so be sure to enter 0.01 and not .01.

Here is some reading.
For anyone interested that is.

The problems stated in this thread seem very familiar.

Well, I did some more tinkering, and this is what I have in my prefs:

Keep enough work on disk to last between
0.1 and 1 days

On multiprocessors, use at most
1 processors

Write to disk at most every
60 seconds

Use no more than
5 GB

Leave at least
0.01 GB

Use no more than
90% of total space

...because I only have 10Gb free on my Powerbook right now, and since I'm using a modem here in China *_* until August, so I want to save telephone time & room for photos on my HD.

But this time around, I must have done something right 'cause now it no longer gives me the same old 'not enough room' error message, it now gives me "no work from project"... which looks to be the bigger problem in the Mac community via the Questions and Help page.

*sigh* Oh well, I guess I'll just wait some more ~_~ heheh :p . Thanks for your help guys ^_^ !

[snip]

This the start of the fiscal fourth quarter for most companies. I'm sure Berkeley was looking at their bugeting for the next fiscal year and wanted the SETI team to show progress since the project is way past the projected release date. Project dollars are tight and every project wants some of the University of California's money, making competition tough. Only the projects that show the most promise will get the best funding.

I'm sure the SETI team had to get this project released by the start of the fourth quarter if they were to get any more funding past the end of this fiscal year. If in fact this is the case, then it will be interesting to see if the current problems will be a hinderance in getting more funding.

If Berkeley ends funding for this project and corporate donations aren't enough to keep this project alive, then none of us will be crunching SETI WU's in the near future. We need to stop complaining about how bad the SETI team is doing and start doing what we can to show support for their effort to keep this project floating. This may very well be a crucial period for SETI. How about some of you people out there that have been using their company's computers (did they even know? ;-) ) for the past five years crunching WU's try to get their companies to donate to the effort with some cash or hardware to help ease this problem. I just hope this isn't the beginning of a slow death for SETI.

Just my 2 cents worth on the possible reason of a poorly timed public release.

...been waiting for 2 weeks for WUs, so I'm happily cruching Classic WUs instead.

Agreed.

Just let your clients wait for work....and the team will sort out the bugs and the work will come.

We're looking for ET....not high scores.....

yes, the infomation policy ist very bad...

remember: at seti@home 2 on BOINC Beta there whwere 18271 members, i think here are more people and evrey one must get more than 1 WU at time (the different betwen seti@home 1 an seti@home on BOINC)...

REPLY - Yes I noticed that they fixed the link within minutes of my post. Obviously a fix in the works before my comment. Also obvious that I knew how to get to the project, so what did you mean about the name?
Furthermore, my post asked people to realize the problems inherent in upscaling & to be patient. My suggestion that the team take a moment to keep us better informed seems to have been a wish common to many users and one the team seems to have attempted to respond to. Sorry if you found offense.
