Over the last few weeks i have bee reading how people have had problems with: (a) unable to get wu's (b) unable to connect to server (c) unable to upload wu's.

It seams to me that some people have more than one machine at work at anyone time, now with machines getting faster and having them run 24/7 that there will be problems.
Is it not obveous that we need to turn our machines off for a time, give s@h time to recover and let it build up some wu's aswell as free up the system.

Just a thought.

Why? When they have work we do it when we don't we don't and come here and complain. It's been working for years, why mess it up? LOL
Actually they don't know when things will break although we do try and guess. As things are right now there is plenty of work, conserving it won't help as usually when there is no work something is Broken. Some things just seem Obvious.

I wouldn't pause for a minute. What if you pause and miss the only ETI message we are ever going to get?

It's obvious that those who are very sensitive to electricity costs should shut down if they're out of work.

Then again, if you're sensitive to electrical costs, you should not run computers just to crunch -- you should run them when they're needed, and crunching is incidental.

... or, pick another project that sounds interesting, and assign them a small resource share.

Remember than only a very small percentage of SETI@Home participants even track what their computers are doing.

Also, most of those complaining about problems are noting that it takes more than one attempt to get work -- most aren't complaining that they're out, they're complaining that their queue isn't being kept full.

.. and whatever the reason for not filling our queues, BOINC is performing as intended. It will keep asking until work is received, however long that takes.

As Ned said, if you absolutely positively have to crunch, add another project or two. Then sit back and watch BOINC do its thing.

And that the best way never having to worry about the work. On my list I have 3 project that have died with little chance of resurrection. LHC is just now starting to put out a few test tasks after a year with no work. Malariacontrol has been down for over a month, they should have a new app ready sometime in April. Boincsimap is an intermittent project only supplying work for a few days at the beginning of the month. As for the rest of my project including Seti and Seti beta, I rarely notice when they go down. At worst, I have a couple of WU waiting to upload or report for a few days. My computer crunches 24/7 with no interuptions.
