Bluefin Tuna stocks are down 75% but the UN didn't see fit to place a ban on fishing. Seems Japan and China depend on it, but will just delay the economical impact of the ban by a couple years when there are none. Reminds me of the Lumber industry here in Washington. Instead of retraining they wanted to chop every last tree and then figure out what to do next.

If they go and take their money and build bluefin fish farms, they could turn a handsome profit. An even bigger one if they start a rumor that wild caught fish are "dirty" while farm raised ones are clean. It isn't that hard to influence the man at Japan's sushi bar. You do need to know it is all about face. Make him have more face doing what you want and he'll rush to do it.

Let's see if the Sea Shepherd people are terrorists or part of the solution. Do they have more invested in racist hate or do they want to do the right thing and save a species?

I wonder if Sea Shepherd had not spent all that money on the Ady Gil and the Bob Barker if they would have had enough to do some loans to start some fish farms and do some good. Well, one thing with that route; the person behind Sea Shepherd wouldn't have gotten 15 minutes of fame.

Well in some Kenyan marine areas fish stock is increasing obviously, thanks to Somali pirates.
I heard already someone thinking loud: "If that is so, we perhaps should collect money to establish training camps for pirates ..."

Perhaps an alternative: You could check whether your supermarket / fish merchant / restaurant can show a certificate of Marine Stewardship Council for the fish products they offer.

The rank stupidity of Homo Sapien never ceases to amaze me. One can only feel that, when 'ET' pays an official visit, they may see the culling of the Human Race as an unpleasant reality, needed for the survival of greater numbers of creatures. I can see no reason for the nations who voted for the restrictions, not to implement a complete ban on the import, in any form, of Blue Fin Tuna. Perhaps those who voted against the proposal may wish to consider the rise of piracy around Somalia and why it has come about - over-fishing!

Unfortunately, fish farms are very wasteful and highly polluting. Very much more wild fish must be caught to replenish and feed the farmed fish than you get from the 'farming'. Examples from salmon fish farming are that they are also highly fertile for parasites and disease that then pollutes and infects all the other fish nearby or passing by. Including the wild fish that are supposedly being spared...

Much more effective and efficient is to leave the wild fish wild and fish a sustainable catch. Far more highly productive than the present senseless once-and-for-all rape-and-pillage to destruction.
