Message 972798 - Posted: 21 Feb 2010, 15:50:42 UTC - in response to Message 972766.

"we see there is a problem and take care of it on monday" is good enough for me.
(this took 1 minute to type)

Yes, but how long to decide that is a true statement? I get enough "there there, calm down" messages from my government. I don't need any more of that.

Go to the sticky thread at the top of number crunching, there is some actual information (as opposed to theory) being presented there, by people in contact with staff.

Read all that..........and several other threads more of educated guessing.
I see the AP-splitters are back online again (or is this a automated proces?)
The crickets showing better now, but not maxed out like expected!
Perhaps someone is really working to find the problem but I rather have them typing a short message;
I know there is a problem!
Can't find a sollution now!
Be back after the weekend!

If they posted exactly that, you have a whole other group of individuals who would be angered by the staff's lack of dedication to solving the problem. We already had another user insist that not fixing the issue is tantamount to the staff disrespecting the user's donation of resources.

Sometimes, no matter what you say, it won't be good enough. Sometimes, it's better to not say anything.

Well....still no joy here, that's for sure.
Not much is making it through the brick wall to the servers from the kitties.
I still have work on all computers, except the Cuda well has run dry on 2 of my 3 Cuda rigs.

Should be one heck of a Boincstats day when the smoke finally clears.

Hold that thought. SETI, like most serious science, is a long term undertaking. Expecting results/fixes/answers RIGHT NOW just is not realistic. Instead, come back in a year and talk about long term statistics. That is what is really important.

You still have work??!! What are you worried about?

Heck, I've had to unscramble proteins for Rosetta for 3 days now just to keep the box warm. I tried to be considerate and only set a 3-day cache. Normally, that covered the typical weekend server crashes without any problems. Things have been running so smoothly for the past couple of months (even over the Christmas holidays with the scheduled shutdowns) I had no reason to get more.

I do now.

is that correct: wu's with deadline 20 feb have been processed but obviously not uploaded. so as soon as they're uploaded, they won't be reagarded as finished in time and will be resent? so those wu's (by tomorrow about 60), will cause extra electricity/time/bandwidth?

I have some of those still waiting to upload that have already been re-sent out to and returned by the 3rd cruncher!!

Such is life - all part of the rich pattern...

Yup...
Sadly, I suspect that a fair piece of the body of completed work on my rigs is gonna end up to be pro bono due to late reporting.

I really had hopes that this problem was gonna be analyzed and fixed by now.

Sigh.

Thanks. Had more than one fellow cruncher tell me to lighten up a little yesterday. LOL.

:)

Anyone remember "Laugh-In"?? The skits and jokes.

I'm not sure why, but a lot of what goes on in these forums reminds me of that program...

Yes, they would be late.

... but that doesn't mean they'll be instantly marked as overdue, reissued and sent. The process that does that can be turned off to allow extra time when things are not going well.

If it helps to think of them has having extensions or extra "grace periods" that is fairly accurate.

I would hope that under the present circumstances, Eric might consider doing that.

at this point the project being down for 2 days is no big deal, it was down two years ago for the better part of a month....its a weekend and they are generally not in.

I bet that won't be the case. I'm sure Eric can run that fancy script he has on the Beta site and grant everyone credit on those late returns.

Correct, but this has been going on for more than 2 days...I have one rig that has not been able to connect since the 16th.
If this was solely related to a backlog of uploads, I would have expected it to clear by now.
