I just updated my Phenom quad core XP system to BOINC 6.10.18 and found that the CUDA GPU (Nvidis 9400) was no longer recognised. I then found out that I had to update my GPU drivers, which I have done, and all seemed well. However now every CUDA WU crashes about halfway through, with "Computation error". It usually manifests itself as a hung screen although the CPU is still running and there is HDD I/O. The usual cure is a reboot although I have sometimes managed to jerk it into life with a 3 finger salute. Any ideas please?

Also, how can I get the previous version of BOINC back?

Perhaps you've gone too far with the drivers. See Latest Nvidia 196.21 drivers for more information.

Try this link.

Just so you know, it may not be a problem with your GPU exactly. We seem to be getting a lot of VLAR work units coming through right now. They are very hard on the GPUs and can cause problems like you are describing.

Thanks to all; it turned out to be the SETI screen saver, which became active after upgrading the software. Killed that and all is now well.

May I suggest you also run an older video driver 19107 or 19038.
The newer driver is not as effective running Cuda app's.

I was having a similar problem, Computation error on GPU work units. I turned the seti screen saver off and set up a blank screen saver. I have not had any errors since I did this, about a month ago.
