Message 958558 - Posted: 24 Dec 2009, 18:52:18 UTC

I have just installed 6.10.18, previously using 6.6.36 and no problem.

Now this new version didn't detect GPU, messages are:

Can someone please advise, I have restarted the computer twice and still not solving the problem.

My GPU is NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT.
I also install TechPowerUp GPU-Z 0.3.5

Is there any bug issue with this new version? Or should I just simply restore previous version?

What is your CUDA driver version?

Did you see this thread at the BOINC dev boards?

Ageless wrote:
The new Nvidia API that BOINC 6.10 uses has a minimum driver set of CUDA 2.2, 185.85.

If your present drivers are below this version, update first.
If your present drivers are below this and they're the last available for your hardware, you cannot update to 6.10; stay at the last 6.6.x version for your OS.

Spread the word.

Gruß,
Gundolf
[edit]I just checked, it's 182.06. So, you'll have to upgrade the driver or downgrade BOINC.[/edit]

Remember you must also not install in Protected Mode on Vista and W7.

I have nearly the Same Problem.

Nvidia Driver 195.62 GeForce 9600GT 1024MB RAM.

The interesting facts is, that the console application of Boinc found the gpu and trys to start a project for it. But the GUI /Boinc Manager didnt found the GPU.

IIRC the 195.XX drivers run the CUDA app a bit slower than the pervious driver version. There is a thread around here discussing that

Windows says my drivers are up to date. I downloaded BOINC using Firefox, so I don't think the "Protected Mode" is an issue. Could be wrong though.

Thanks in advance.

Protected Mode has to do with a type of BOINC installation, not what browser you used to download it.

I notice that you have an ATI card. SETI currently only accepts NVIDIA. There is a third party optimized application that uses ATI, and SETI has an ATI driver in the works, but the one from SETI is not ready yet. I believe that the third part ATI app that does SETI can be downloaded from lunatics.

Having a similar problem. Weird thing is that I installed the newest Nvidia drivers last night. Afterwords everything was fine. Then I shut down the computer overnight, booted back up this morning and I'm back to no GPU detected.

Asking a question already asked. Are you running BOINC in protected mode? Win7 and vista cannot run the BOINC GPU process in protected mode. If you are unsure whether BOINC is installed in protected mode then your solution is a reinstall of BOINC without protected mode

I checked on a few threads before posting and saw somewhere that you'd get a message about being in Daemon mode or something similar if running protected. I didn't get that message so assumed I was fine.

Even so, on your advice I uninstalled and reinstalled BOINC. This version tells you in the install process that "protected mode is disabled by default" so accidentally installing in protected mode shouldn't happen. You'd have to intentionally attempt a protected mode install.

So, reinstall complete, and no change.

I also looked over the thread at the BOINC dev site linked above and see that a lot of the newer betas are having GPU detection problems, though it seems that 6.10.18 should be ok.

See this message for the proper CUDA driver version you'll need to have onboard

The driver install I did last night was 195.62 which has the latest CUDA driver version available.

I'm accessing the system via remote desktop, so maybe that's getting in the way since I know the Nvidia control panel isn't accessible via RDC.

DINGDINGDING. remote desktop will shutdown the seti GPU processes. they don't play well together. YOu'll need to access the PC in person. I actually use logmein an it seems to work just fine with my GPU processes
