Sadly, LHC@Home appears to have abandoned BOINC. I guess the physicists are too busy tweeting now. |

Here, here. I've been crunching number for SETI@Home for a long time and it always amazes me that a project that is being run on a shoestring by some very dedicated people has as good an uptime as it does. The people working SET@Home deserve our kudos and NOT a bunch of whining. |

Sorry guys i gota whinge again . I can download seti units however it seems to be sending the units twice as ever second unit downloaded fails i have heaps of units so i am getting them ok but it's weird how every second unit says fail not a big problem at this end as i am getting units but i thought you might need to know about this weird thing that is happening incase it causes you guys problems at your end . It just says download fail check out my results page to see them not the 1's i have canceld (cuda couldn't handel them and i haven't got much paitents to wait till it finishes the unit to use my computer so dump them only about 10% i'm guessing tend to stop my machine ) |

Sadly, LHC@Home appears to have abandoned BOINC. I guess the physicists are too busy tweeting now. LHC was used to adjust the beam magnets before startup. They have started up. Project did its thing and now it is done. Unless they run into a problem with the beam, there aren't likely to ever be any more work units for BOINC. |

Uploading and reporting seems no problem. Downloading however... (same for beta) |

After you GOOD guys fixing the problem one of my pc's is ok (AMD Sempron), The other (P4 3.2GHz) constantly said downloading. I rebooted P4 pc and, lo and behold, all is fine - processing units again perhaps a lesson to be learnt - computers need to sleep too (or just a re-boot) lol |

Everything well? I don't think so! Have a small look in the NC subforum -> panic thread. After every ~ 30 DLs only DL errors. Maybe - with good luck ~ 30.. Need to reboot the PC and get again ~ 30 DLs. There is something wrong in Berkeley. A jumping DL IP .. |

Looks like some of the folksw around here are in serious need of some maturity...and patience. If you're in this for ego-stroking, then your in it for the wrong reason. Science isn't about ego, it about learning and discovering. It's fraught with problems and obstacles and failure is more common that success. I've never see so many whiney little children. Relax and take a breather. If you are unhappy with these occassional outages, then set your program up so that you have a weeks worth of data sets always in reserve. I wouldn't normally recommend that as it leaves the project with the potential to lose more data sets as individual computers encounter failures and interruptions, but if you feel you need to, do so. Otherwise, QUIT WHINING! Act like an adult for a change. Judging from some of the posts here, it'll be the first time in your lives you ever have. The guys are working as hard as they can to make this whole thing run smoothly. If they need a break every now and then, so be it. Personally, I hope everyone enjoys a nice holiday...even those of you who don't reside in the good ol' USA. Will Man's future lies in the stars, not on Earth. It is each successive generation's responsibility to humanity to expand the knowledge and understanding of our Universe so that we may one day venture forth to meet our neighbors. Houston, Texas |

Right on! I wish I'd said that. I probably will say that, the next time somebody whines on these forums. |

Hey, everybody that's having problems downloading: try shutting down (gracefully, of course...) your BOINC client, and re-starting it. This worked for me on two machines... (the third didn't need it...) As far as LHC goes, I understand that once the beam is back online, they're going to be using BOINC to analyze (at least some of...) the resulting data. . Hello, from Albany, CA!... |

I second the opinion..... Once again we are donating cycles for science to use as they need/see fit. Science is not providing a free gaming platform. |

I third that opinion. These guys are doing a great job and probably deserve more holidays than the rest of us. I know how frustrating computer problems are, And how tiring it can be... Enjoy your holidays, lads! |

A developer on the LHC forum, bigmac, has written that CERN will not support LHC@home. So I don't think LHC@home shall receive any data from the starting experiments.Too bad. Tullio |

Geez some of you guys need to relax. So the project has server issues, Big deal. Unless you guys are trading credits for cash who cares if seti has glitches. Im glad the guys at seti finally said screw it and took a break. [/quote] Old James |

So the project has server issues, Big deal. Exactly. If someone needs something to do while the servers are down, I'd recommend reading some of the documentation here, especially this one. From BOINC: A System for Public-Resource Computing and Storage: Reduce the barriers of entry to public-resource computing. BOINC allows a research scientist with moderate computer skills to create and operate a large public-resource computing project with about a week of initial work and an hour per week of maintenance. The server for a BOINCbased project can consist of a single machine configured with common open-source software (Linux, Apache, PHP, MySQL, Python). A better understanding of how things are supposed to work is very helpful when things are not working perfectly. |

still unable to communicate with you folks. ihave 2 cmputers. As 99.9%+ are talking to the project, you might try re-booting them. Could be a cached DNS entry needs to be purged. |
