As we ease into Thanksgiving, I wanted to stop and give a few thoughts on the holidays.

What do you give Thanks for???

I give Thanks for my wife who I am so incredibly bonded to. She is truly my better half. I give Thanks for my parents-who are aging quickly due to an issues with an older brother- but keep trucking along healthwise. I give Thanks for my brothers and their families in whatever stage of their lives they are in. I give Thanks to my friends who support me but yet are honest in concerns they have.

May you and your families all have a Safe and Blessed Holiday Season.

Happy Holidays from My Family!

Thank you Blurf for starting this thread.
Happy Holidays to all Seti/Boinc Participants.

I am thankfull for my friends and family. Nothing is more special, then the dogs and kitties greeting me, after I have only been gone five minutes and my youngest is not afraid to tell his Mom, he loves her.

Pluto will always be a planet to me.

Hello folks, friends, seti@home forum members, lurkers and maybe E.T.´s ?!?!

OK, first of all let me underline the meaning of Thanksgiving, since it is a common, typical festivity in the U.S. and Canada.
This holiday is not really known nor celebrated in the "Old World", I may say "the rest of the world"....
but I can only speak for spanish people (those living in Spain, for more info!). There might be an exception in the UK, but I´d prefer to hear what britons have to say about it.
Adding me to this moment, and trying not getting lost somewhere in between, I would thank God, the Higgs-Boson particle, if it exists! for being here right now in this small speck of space-time continuum, with occasionally warped edges and boundaries and sharing the moment with you.
Having good health, having a job and the chance of a brief visit to my closest and dearest family shortly is a blessing: having new horizons in perspective is a wonderful view that tops the fence.
Hope everyone has more or less the same feelings and that everyone may spend a joyful moment/evening/day.....
Cheers!

If one is in the USA/Canada: Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Actually our Thanksgiving here in Canada is celebrated in early October but I will celebrate with our southern friends by thawing some of that leftover turkey from then.

The fuss is simply a day for being thankful. There is a tradition about the pilgrims, some of the first European’s in north America, being fed by the native Americans during their first winter here. That's were the turkey and pumpkin and other traditional foods come from. But the spirit is slow down, look back and remember what is important, what is it that you have that you keep forgetting.
I was with family yesterday so missed this thread, but I will repeat what I had put on my facebook wall.

I am thankful to be alive, my children, my wife and all those who read these words.

We are so tied up in day to day, that it seems we need a reminder......

God bless that you in other places do not need one........

Andy, Colin Firth explains what Thanksgiving is all about in the movie Easy Virtue. He says it's about the eradication of an indeginous people.

I don't get this holiday at all. Personally, I hang my head in shame since my ancestors were from Europe and probably took part in the festivities of that time.

In the USA, it's about some 'party' that took place at Plymouth Plantation in 1621. But now the shopping day that follows it (called Black Friday) is a much bigger deal than Thanksgiving day. A lot of stores open at 4 or 5 am so shoppers can gorge themselves with shopping; I guess the Turkey dinner the night before was not enough...

He sounds like a revisionist, Times were different back then. The Holiday isn't that old in any case, AS It was mad a National Holiday back on December 26, 1941 by FDR(and both houses of Congress) and I see no mention of the eradication of an indigenous people at all in the wiki.

You're correct Joker - In the movie, the Brits were having a go at the Americans - Colin Firth's son marries a fiesty American girl during the 30's. He's cool with this, but his stuffy wife isn't. It was actually a funny movie but the comment about Thanksgiving was way over the top!
