Give an inch, take a mile....nice... When the family moved into the neighborhood, the crime rate spiked in the neighborhood. Neoghbors have repeatedly called the authorities but nothing ever happened. The kid and his brother and friend repeatedly bragged of their thievery and nothing was done. Did the kid deserve to die? Absolutely not. Was the man wrong to approach the kids with a gun in the street? According to the law it appears so. Can I blame a citizen for being frustrated over these issues to the point where he finally felt he was forced to take action? Not at all... Familywise, you have Dad taking care of the kids while Mom is shacking up with a neighbor down the street...Hindsight is 20/20 but I just have to wonder if a more stable home life could've prevented this. |

Have you ever heard the words "Rule of Law"? Citizens do not have the right to go into the streets and divy out justice. It wasn't the shooter's property. The shooter was not in danger in his own home. There were no other weapons being used. Some of you can attempt to justify the shooting until you're blue in the face. You're wrong. The only way some of you would ever concede this point would be in the case where you yourself were shot by some vigilanty. Whether it be mistaken identity or a misreading of the situation, some fool with a gun, cloaked in self righteous indignation, could kill you in the street for no reason beyond his own belief that you had committed a crime. Is that the sort of society you guys are calling for??? Ya Tom, we have a few idiots in Canada who think like you when it comes to shoot first and ask questions later. But I think you win when it comes to shear numbers. Thanks to the NRA for all of their efforts to keep America safe. LOL |

Aristo-please read my entire post. I did not say the mother's actions were the only reason for the behavior--not at all. I'm just conjecturing on what may be contributing to the decline of the family and what may be contributing to the behaviors of the children. A new post quotes now that: He says he acted in self defense. Scott says he saw three individuals in his driveway, then watched as they went to other homes on Baneberry Way attempting to break into cars. Now I can see him coming onto his driveway to protect his property, but yes acting in the street was inappropriate |

blurf, the problem is, i have read all the posts in this forum, including yours, and i commented on basis what you wrote here and i was just quoting what you said. i hate that kind of world that you are supporting, but i can be ruthless with ease, so for me it is improvement, but is this what you really want? i would like to live in a world where ones action is the only measure which you are judged. you apparently want different world, good luck. edit: what in the world, is this good reason to shoot? He says he acted in self defense. Scott says he saw three individuals in his driveway, then watched as they went to other homes on Baneberry Way attempting to break into cars. Now I can see him coming onto his driveway to protect his property, but yes acting in the street was inappropriate ( and please, next time quote my WHOLE POST, not just a snippet) ____________ |

I saw no mention of this in the article. I can only assume this is speculation on the part of those trying to show how immoral the kids parents were to somehow create a second class citizen out of him so he deserves what he got. Kids from good God fearin' homes would never do this. |

It's not speculation, Robert. As I mentioned early on... He lives near my sister-in-law. She actually lives within 5 houses of the kid. Of course the newspaper won't do anything to show the kid or the family as they truly were...broken home. Won't mention the number of time the sheriff's were called. The shooting is a tragedy but the reporting should be honest. We've stomped this into the ground and think we've hit the ...we'll have to agree to disagree. It's been a good discussion and I appreciate all your points of view. At this point (as it's my thread) I'm going to lock this until the trial. I'll unlock it at that point and post updates and the verdict. |
