Hello,

I wanted to try an optimized client for running WU on one PC at home.

I ran CPU-Z and it shows my processor as being Intel Pentium T2080 (Dual Core) with MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3

I downloaded AK_v8.0_Win32_SSE3 from Lunatics site and followed the install instruction of just stopping the boinc service, copying the 4 files to the c:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu folder and then restart the boinc service.

On starting the service Boinc produce the following messages.

As you can see Boinc only see my process as just having SSE2 and not SSE3 as CPU-Z shows.

Anyway from the messages you can see that Boinc found app_info.xml and running as an anonymous platform as the instructions say. But then there are errors in the messages and Boinc can no longer download tasks.

Please help, do I need an different optimized client or is the problems elsewhere.

Thanks

CPU-Z is more accurate. BOINC only reports what the OS tells it, so if the OS doesn't support higher than SSE2, that's all the OS will tell BOINC. This doesn't mean that using a SSE flavor higher than what the OS supports won't work; in deed it does work as I have them running on my systems.

The messages in red indicate that you were using SETI@Home v6.03 on your system prior to using the optimized application. If you used the default app_info.xml file that came with the optimized app, it only has references for SETI@Home v5.28, so BOINC spits out the errors you saw stating that it can't handle the newer v6.03 results and usually aborts them, which still turn up as errors in your account and reduce your overall daily quota.

The messages in green indicate that BOINC does not think you need any more work. I also noticed that you have your local preferences set to suspend network activity while user is active, so when you are active(ly) pressing the Update button for more work, BOINC disallows network activity meaning that you cannot get more work while active. You'll have to allow network activity while active so that BOINC can finish connecting to the internet when requested.

You are correct about downloading tasks. As soon as it went Idle the tasks downloaded.

As for the 603 errors, I put 603 into the app_info.xml file and all is now OK.

Thanks again.

Now that all seems to be running, will the optimized client increase my RAC? if not how can you increase your RAC

Yes, the optimized apps will definitely increase your RAC. How much depends on many different factors of your system and the Angle Range (AR) of the workunit being crunched, but can be anywhere from 15% up to 50%.

That's good to hear, as long as the WU get check 100% then I will love to increase my bragging rights.
