I am currently running the Phenom 940, and doing so at 3737MHz.

My RAC is currently at just above 6100 and still slowly rising, doing both AP and MB.

This is, as said, with the cores at 3,7GHz, CPU Northbridge and L3 at 2,4Ghz, running DDR2-1067 with 4-5-5-15-2T.

This gives me place number 178 on the top computer list (have been at 149), which is the second fastest AMD, if I havent overlooked something. And the one in front of me (at ~7400 RAC) is a 16 core computer.

This is not a dedicated cruncher, I use it for everyday use, play games on it, and help Lunatics a little with their developements. This means, I could probably get more out of it, if I left it alone. Yesterday it was down 4-5 hours, to get a new HDD installed (and some other internal modifications), not good for RAC either. We'll see where it ends up. Hoping for a top 150 placement.

I'm still working on further raising clockspeed for the cores, but is running into heat problems. I can probably get about 5-10% more out of it, then that'll be it...

What graphics card do you have? That punches out more heat than most, and if you are running into heat issues overclocking cpu, lowering the card heat may help some - not all obviously, but background temperature inside the case will affect cpu heating. There are good (safe) watercooling solutions for graphics cards out there that are very easy to install or integrate into any curent water cooling solution. If you are not already into that - and let me know the card you have - I have a look at which water cooling solution fits the card (some at present dont have one).

Zydor:

I'm running a watercooled setup, and the GFX card is not in the loop.

My problems are due to me wanting a low noise system, so I have low airflow over my radiator, thus my cooling is not stellar.

I'm working on getting a better Radiator, and possibly a new fan (though the Scythe S-flex I'm using now is quite good). Reading tests I found out my current Radiator is one of the less effecient ones, so I will get one that is more effective.

I'm actually quite satisfied at 3,7Ghz, so I'm not going to use much more money on getting higher. A new Radiator/fan, and that will be it.

Have a look at the Asetek solution for 9800GTXs - Asetek obviously a good source, no worries there, just whether it suits your setup. Its an innovative solution getting lots of kudos with the way it uses both fan and water. Less messy setting it up as well. However, usual story - horses for courses, and depends on personal preference.

Aquagrafx is another from Aqua Computers - a review is here:
http://www.overclock3d.net/news.php?/cases_cooling/aqua_computer_launch_new_9800gtx_water-block/1

There are more: Zalman - Coolermaster - Alphacool. Need to dig a little as not all cover all the cards.

Worth a look, dont cost much and will reduce heat / noise. Asetek will take off 25 degrees C from standard gpu block temp and run at 22dba - significantly cuts down the internal background case temperature as a by product of cooling the gpu block.

Asetek background on its method: http://www.asetek.com/content/view/386/201/

I see several lower end Phenom II CPU's that are coming out. I recall the PIII was to appear in March

The new processors comming out now and in march are still gonna be named Phenom II. But they will support DDR3 on AM3 motherboards as well as DDR2 on old AM2+ motherboards.

Zydor:

I'm not looking for at watercooling setup for my GFX card right now, and if I make one, it will be build from leftover parts I allready have lying around. All I need is a pump, and it doesn't need to be anything special. All the oher parts I allready have.

But thanks for the suggestions anyway :)

My priority right now is getting a better Radiator to take over from the one currently installed.

Then I'll rest for while, save some money for a new GFX card (CUDA perhaps...), or even a SSD drive.

And if you check the anatech link you'll see that the article is about phenom II x4 and x3 lower end models of the PII. I understand that the PII that are to come out soon will work on both platforms.
