Now it works again.

Dont know what it was.
Just waited a few hours and turned on again.
Maybe a static issue after i changed the PSU.
HDDs working well no problem after startup.

Probably just needed some TLC. (Tender Loving Care)

I hate faults like that....

Putting 'It got better' on the job card just doesn't seem right.

I usually write something like "reset power supply and CMOS memory settings, Test, OK"

Then it sounds like you actually did something usefull and the customer is happy to pay the account. ;-)

Glad it's going again though :-)

From me they can get KIB. (Kick in Butt)

General troubleshooting tip:

Disconnect evrything from the mainbord not neccesary to power on (also includes HDD). Left with this bare minimum try to get a succesfull POST. Reconnect things one by one to see when it stops doing so an start with the most important parts first (storage first sound or modem at the end).

Now it works again.

Dont know what it was.
Just waited a few hours and turned on again.

That is typical of a bad connection or a short or something that is temperature dependant.

Or you've got a sticky cooling fan or a marginal hdd that are soon to fail completely.

Hopefully it is "magically" fixed, but sorry as an engineer I do not believe in magic nor fate...

Have you backed up your data?...

The temps was never a problem on any of my machines Martin.
This system is running a AMD 6400+ black edition at 3.5 GHZ.
CPU temp at 44°C.
System tem 38°C.
I´ve checked the commectors more than ten times.
I tried a startup with minimal configuration also.

I´m sure it was the PSU.

Sadly my son ordered a new motherboard yesterday.

Only for info.
My own system is running over 5 years with four completely different configurations.
But this failure i haven´t seen so far.

Anyway thank you all for your suggestions and ideas.
Its much apreciated and helped me a lot.

sincerly
Mike

Mike, I have the same issue with an old system of mine.
It's the hard drive. Once I let it rest for an hour, it
boots up again without issue. Has never affected my data,
just needs to rest (its an oldtimer). Next time it gives
you problems, disconnect the hard drive and boot from CD/DVD
to confirm.

I´m sure it wasn´t the Hard drives.
I disconnected it several times and it didn´t boot also.

I only say it wasn´t magically fixed.
I chnged the PSU again yesterday to the old one.
And it hang up again.
Back to the new Enermax it works properly.

I myself wanted to know what it really was.
On the other hand my son now has another two gigabytes of RAM.
2 gigabytes OCZ reaper and the older 2 gigabytes HyperX from Kingston.

But i also want to thank each and everyone who told me his suggestions.
It helped a lot and is much apreciated..

Thanx again
Mike

Thank you for clearing up the 'magical' bit. That is usually a worthwhile exercise to prove that whatever 'it is' is actually fixed.

(And I'm sure the Wizard of Ozz and myself will be on another clash soon enough!)

Good luck,
Martin
