Cruiser has done quite a few Astropulse units for me, and they've all been done in 103-104 hours.

Now I've got three crunching at once, with projections (calculated by me, using progress percentage and CPU time - very accurate for my machine anyway) of 110 (97% done), 107 (80% done), and 105 hours (45% done). And yes, I have had three at once before this.

Anybody else seeing large variations in Astropulse completion times?

For some reason, the servers like to send me multiple Astropulse units - I've got three more in the cache (that's six Astropulse units out of 45 work units total). My cache is only set for two days...

I've done four at once, for Beta site, on Q6600 and they completed faster, by about 8%, than when running with usual mix of AP, MB and Einstein.
My own thoughts say AP likes L2 cache, and doesn't run very well on AMD cpu's.
An AMD X2 6000+ has similar benchmarks to my Q6600 but takes over twice as long to complete AP units.

Interesting. On SETI Beta one participant with an Intel quad noted that doing four AP WUs at once actually seemed to shorten crunch time somewhat. I'm not surprised that an AMD system reacts differently, but it's a pity the difference adds to the disadvantage that AMD already has on AP work.

I just completed a new system a Quad 9550 overclocked to 3.85gig and I had 5 AP work units and they completed in 23 hours and forty minutes each. The times seem to be consistant for me.

Haven't had more but have a whole 10 day cache of 6.03 work units.

I have to figure out a way to allow AP on only certain systems right now I seem unable to do that.

The last time I had three Astropulse units crunching at once, they all finished within the normal 103-104 hour window. I'm not complaining about the extra time, I'm just wondering if it's happened to anyone else.

We'll see if this extra time trend continues - with three more Astropulse units in the queue, I'll be crunching multiple different sets of three simultaneously for quite a few days.

HFB - you can set each computer to a different venue in the online preferences. There are separate options for Home, Work, and School, and you can set them up differently. This includes whether to crunch Astropulse or not.

Personally, I'd prefer you keep doing Astropulse, especially since you have Core 2 Quads to finish them quickly.

Thanks for the info on setting different options for each system.

The Q9550 with an OC of 3.86 does rack them up fast I will be keeping that one doing AP work units. My Q6600 has an OC of 3.6 gig and just received its first AP work unit I will wait to see its complition time before making a decission as to do AP units or mot.

Another Q9550 is in the works and should be up and running in about 2 weeks.

I have two Opteron 2210s and two weeks ago my cache lined up so that I was doing 4 APs at the same time, and they all completed with about a 45-minute spread. That's not too much of a variation considering it was in the 130-hour range. All AP, or any mix of AP/MB doesn't seem to affect anything for this AMD system..even when encoding DVDs or playing games with the crunching in the background.
