Can i just copy and paste arkayns' script to wordpad and name it app_info.xml?
Do the colors need to be in it?

Yes, I've got One, I've had to suspend the 36 MB WU's in front to get it started,
I Reckon it take about 50 hours to complete.

I would take MS Editor to edit the app_info.xml.

No, no color needed.. ;-)

The easiest would be to open your current app_info.xml with the MS Editor and insert the new info.. and save..

EDIT:
Have someone a finished AP WU? It would be nice/interesting to see the <stderr_txt> ..
Please post a link.. :-D

Yep, you can copy and paste arkayns' script straight in, and rename it,
no the colours don't need to be in, but you might need to make your cache
a little smaller, as Astropulse take a bit longer than estimated, and you might
end up with a a lot of them next week, maybe.

I'd be very wary about using Wordpad to save text files since Wordpad formats the text, which can seriously screw up some files (usually because it adds invisible formatting characters which won't be invisible to an app that tries reading the file).

Use Notepad instead since it saves the file exactly as you have it typed in without adding formating characters.

Hmm.. then there it must be something wrong..

You stop BOINC.
Go into C:\Program Files\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu and search to the app_info.xml.
Open it with the MS Editor.
..and edit it like this:

[new entries in blue]

<app_info>
<app>
<name>astropulse</name>
</app>
<file_info>
<name>astropulse_4.35_windows_intelx86.exe</name>
<executable/>
</file_info>
<file_info>
<name>libfftw3f-3-1-1a_upx.dll</name>
<executable/>
</file_info>
<file_info>
<name>ap_graphics_4.35_windows_intelx86.exe</name>
<executable/>
</file_info>
<app_version>
<app_name>astropulse</app_name>
<version_num>435</version_num>
<file_ref>
<file_name>astropulse_4.35_windows_intelx86.exe</file_name>
<main_program/>
</file_ref>
<file_ref>
<file_name>libfftw3f-3-1-1a_upx.dll</file_name>
</file_ref>
<file_ref>
<file_name>ap_graphics_4.35_windows_intelx86.exe </file_name>
<open_name>graphics_app</open_name>
</file_ref>
</app_version>
<app>
<name>setiathome_enhanced</name>
</app>
<file_info>
<name>AK_v8_win_SSE2.exe</name>
<executable/>
</file_info>
<app_version>
<app_name>setiathome_enhanced</app_name>
<version_num>527</version_num>
<file_ref>
<file_name>AK_v8_win_SSE2.exe</file_name>
<main_program/>
</file_ref>
</app_version>
<app_version>
<app_name>setiathome_enhanced</app_name>
<version_num>528</version_num>
<file_ref>
<file_name>AK_v8_win_SSE2.exe</file_name>
<main_program/>
</file_ref>
</app_version>
</app_info>

[In red the name of your opt. app]

And then save the new app_info.xml.

Start BOINC again.

Then you must see again the message:
xx.xx.xxxx xx:xx:xx|SETI@home|Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform

BTW. Of course you must have downloaded this files manually also..

The MS Editor is a DOS based command line tool that allows you to create or modify files from a C:> prompt. The Editor (command name: EDIT) comes with DOS 5 and newer, Win9x, NT, 2000, XP & Vista 32bit. Since it is a 16bit app, it does not come with XP & Vista x64.

I think it's because I let run a german WinXP.. ;-)

I have WordPad and Editor. No Notepad.
And my Editor is maybe your US/UK Notepad?

It's good that the opt. app is running, but little confusing why you don't have the
xx.xx.xxxx xx:xx:xx|SETI@home|Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform
message in BOINC..

Must we also upgrage Boinc to 6.2.14 before we are allowed to download Astropulse work?

There is no version minimum set for AstroPulse.

Interesting. I didn't know that. If Editor is a Windows app, then it is probably the German equivalent of Notepad.

Silly question - you have copied the "astropulse_4.35_windows_intelx86.exe" file to the projects folder?

Ok, I am using 64-bit Windows Vista Ultimate SP1, 64-bit BOINC 6.2.14 and Alex Kan's optimized SETI@home application Windows 64 bit AK v8.0 SSE3 (AMD/INTEL). My C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu folder's app_info.xml looks like this:

......

I also downloaded these files manually:

I put those files into the C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu folder.

PS. Thanks, Richard!
PPS. Use these information at your own risk.

Henri.

Henri, to get astropulse on one of my machines which is running an optimized app (sse2, old xeon cpu's) I used your suggestions for changing app_info.xml. That machine has picked up an astropulse wu yesterday and is now crunching 3 multibeam wu's in parallel to 1 astrobeam wu.

Just to let you know that it works and thank you for the effort of putting the required changes on the forum, saved me a lot of thinking, tinkering and typing!

Regards,
John.

Message 791414 - Posted: 2 Aug 2008, 15:04:47 UTC

Apparently I have either a coding or (more likely) a cognitive deficiency that prevents me from getting BOINC running the Windows 32 bit AK8.0 SSSE3 (Intel) App to accept Astropulse WUs. I have downloaded the appropriate files, added them to my C:\Program Files\BOINC\Projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu folder, replaced the app_Info.xlm file and rebooted the computer. Instead of adding Astropulse, I am now wanted in 3 systems for the mass murder of pending S@H WU's. BOINC also puts me in time-out for 15 hours to ponder the lint in my navel.

What am I missing (besides an adequate supply of neurons)?

Thanks!

Maybe not at all appropriate, because of a typo in your message, but .... in your message you gave the name of your app_info file as app_info.xlm. If you also did that in your boinc folder it would probably explain your problems I guess. That file is supposed to be named app_info.xml (xml, not xlm ;-)

John.
