MS is saying that the kernel will be miminalist & that apps will be added for it to operate in a specialist role, ie database server/file server/web server etc, which should really speed up it's operation. However, there is no mention on how Win 7 will operate as a home desktop. We'll just have to wait & see if MS corrects it's mistakes & get's itself back on track. |

MS is always coy when is comes to the desktop version of their operating systems. ![]() ![]() LETS BEGIN IN 2010 |

MS is saying that the kernel will be miminalist & that apps will be added for it to operate in a specialist role, ie database server/file server/web server etc, which should really speed up it's operation. Despite the problems that have arisen from Vista, MS's push towards minimalistic kernel, emphasizing memory footprint makes it seem like they are trying to address efficiency issues. I don't care much for the eye candy in recent MS systems as I'm most interested in getting the job done, so this seems to be a positive step. I'm going to be keeping myself informed of what MS is up to in this next version especially going into next year. |

When we finally figure it all out, all the rules will change and we can start all over again. |

Wow it could cost as much as a couple of trips to the gas station to fill up your favorite buggy;) When we finally figure it all out, all the rules will change and we can start all over again. |

The catch to watch out for guys is: the o/s itself will probably be very reasonable, however, what will you be able to do with it? I'll lay odds on that for the add-on modules. the cost will also be reasonable, but as a whole, i.e., a complete server, the total cost will be high. |

The catch to watch out for guys is: the o/s itself will probably be very reasonable, however, what will you be able to do with it? That is the rumor, though it isn't confirmed if it will be Windows 7 or Windows 8 that will be modular. The selling point will be "Why pay for features you don't need?" Such as most home users won't need the ability to join a corporate domain, and corporate users won't need gaming features such as DirectX. They can sell you a core OS and you can buy the stuff you want. As I understand it, there will still be different versions of the Core OS, such as Windows 7 Home and Windows 7 Pro, with the Home version having most things a home user would need, but then you can buy extra features if you want. Of course, this is all speculative as Microsoft hasn't announced that they plan on going forward with this idea. I think its just something that they're toying with as an idea. And no, I'm not really a big fan of this idea myself. |

The catch to watch out for guys is: the o/s itself will probably be very reasonable, however, what will you be able to do with it? That seems to be the new stragety of Business, Governments, etc. Taken a close look at your recent Cell/home phone bill lately? Same is true for power, gas, and water bills. The other annoying thing is what the insurance companies are doing. You buy homeowner policy and think you understand the terms and what is covered. Then they start sending semingly monthly notices as to what new has been excluded form you coverage. When we finally figure it all out, all the rules will change and we can start all over again. |

I guess Microsoft already has a headstart in the nickel and dime department. I use Microsoft Retail Management system and have to pay $700 a year for bug fixes. Any company that puts out software with bugs should have to give the fixes for free. I didn't have the $700 last month so now if I want any support at all it will cost me around $1400 they penalize you for not resubscibing on time. We plan on changing to Quickbooks because of this. The core of Winodws 7 taking shape I don't know if you're offering this as "proof" that Windows will be offered "stripped down", but keep in mind that what they're talking about in that article is the same thing Windows Server 2008 can do: Run without the GUI. This does not mean that you have to buy everything else to have a fully functional OS. |

Umm. Those are quite old news, aren't they? Windows 7 is based on Windows Vista's core, I think. So, it wouldn't be any lighter than Vista is. Still, the idea of MinWin is just great. Henri. ![]() Manned mission to Mars in 2019 Petition <-- Sign this, please. |
