I got a couple of hints in my 'true music' thread that I was ignoring some of the great guitar masters..... Not so.....I know and love them all.....starting with Les Paul. And I was at SRV's last show, and Clapton was there with Buddy Guy and Robert Cray and Jimmy Lee. But hey...... I thought I would open a thread where all are invited to add their favorite guitar master clips.....there's gotta be a million of them. I'll start ya off with a lil' Jimmy..Watchtower..a cut I have not seen before, but I am sure it is not new.... And I always seem to forget that he was a lefty............... I got a couple of hints in my 'true music' thread that I was ignoring some of the great guitar masters..... Jimmy was a big fan of Bob Dylan and I believe that is a Dylan song. I met the Drummer for Jimi Hendrex he played at my local college and I met him after the show. |

I think that Mark Knoffler (Knopfler ?) was as good as Chet Atkins. I like his early video "Money for Nothin'" My son is very good as well |

I love the sound of acoustic guitar's. I happend to pick one up, and now trying to learn how to play. Haven't had much time to learn, but when I have the chance I pick it up and practice different chords. All the names mentioned here in this thread are awesome. |

Peter Frampton used to live just down the street from me here in Brentwood, TN. He has now moved. My son took guitar lessons from Tom Leadon whose brother was on the Eagles and wrote Hotel California. Nashville is truly "Music City" |

Can we ignore Django Reinhardt, even if most of us are of other music types. |

I really think that, had he lived longer, Randy Rhoads could have been one of the greats. His untimely death in 1982 at the young age of 26 will ensure that it never happens now, though he is still receiving honors in many top guitarist lists from Rolling Stones magazines and Guitar World magazine. Another great is Eddie Van Halen. Even Eddie thought Randy had a great future. Then there's Tony Iommi. He won the #1 spot on VH1's top 100 outstanding moments in metal history. Missing the tips of two of his fingers during a prior welding accident, which helped him develop his unique sound which would grandfather an entire genre of heavy metal music. And he's a left handed player to top it all off! :) Iommi will probably not go down in the same class as the likes of Clapton, Les or Jimmy, but I think he's in a class all of his own. |
