FINALLY....the "Ivory Tower" acknowledges the cries of the masses....and sensibly recognizes the increasing importance of XP to their current & mid-term bottom line ; > )

Microsoft Pledges Windows XP Support through 2014

2014....that will take us all the way to the 15nm CPU node ...DROOL!....if "tick-tock" runs like swiss-made ; > )

This should put to rest the concerns of Boinc support for XP for quite a while.

Maybe -doze 7 will compel me to upgrade, but XP satisfies all my daily business needs for now.

Well, for one, pledging support is different than actually selling the desired aging OS. For two, I don't think anyone actually thought that BOINC would no longer work on XP considering they just dropped support for Windows 95 in BOINC only recently. I'm sure XP has quite a while to go.

I'm still happy with Vista, and I still contend that its better than XP, IMHO.

Aye, for clarity, at least my own, this Monday the 30th of June is the LAST day to purchase XP, so if you are considering a Windows upgrade from a 32 bit to a 64 bit OS and don't wish to go Vista ... My own experience between the XP 32 bit and 64 bit OS for SETI only is any increase in RAC is minimal at best, as can be seen between my rigs Dennis3 ( Q9450 /32 bit XP / OC to 3400) and Dennis3b (Q9450 / 64 bit XP / OC to 3376) all other HW between the 2 are identical.

Well I'm safe for 6 months - just purchased 30 copies of XP Pro (all legitimate) for a cracking price. When I go back to dealer in 2 weeks, if he can give me the same deal, I'll get 50 next time.

At the moment, have several customers who have downgraded to XP from Vista as they hate it. They have passed that info onto family & friends, so I won't lose out.

For myself, I also purchased Vista Business at an excellent price & currently testing it out - Must admit though, only suffering niggling little problems at the moment.

No surprise. As stated before, people hate change. We all went through the same thing with Windows XP when people were happy with Windows 98. XP was considered too clunky and too slow, and was plagued by hardware support/driver issues.

People will probably skip Vista altogether, and it will probably go down as a horrible OS, but I still believe that it is un-deservingly so.

Well, I'm ashamed to say it, but I'm beginning to like it. "Quick, where's the men in white coats"
