Hi Everybody

On an Apple G5/2*2ghz, Mac OS X 10.3.5. running Boinc vers 4.09 through terminal, I have twice seen the following lines (aside from the date/time group and work unit identification that is) in terminal;

2004-09-25 11:12:19 [SETI@home] Result 27ap04aa.5196.10337.1022148.172_2 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file
2004-09-25 11:12:19 [SETI@home] If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project.
2004-09-25 11:12:19 [SETI@home] Restarting result 27ap04aa.5196.10337.1022148.172_2 using setiathome version 4.02

My question is thus: How do I reset the project. The reason I am asking this is, that I believe that a simple restart is not enough i.e. stopping boinc in terminal and starting the program again. as both instances has been the first reaction from terminal/boinc after having stopped boinc and terminal, starting on a new session of wu-chrunching, and starting on a new work unit.
I have 18 years of experince on the Mac OS. Close to nil experience on UNIX. I would very much appreciate an answer taking these facts into consideration, thanks.

I have exactly the same problem! The third time in a row the result from processor 1 showed this message, although I deleted the workunit and it downloaded and calculated a different WU same problem. Results from processor 0 are o.k.

How can I reset the project?

Getting the same thing from processor 1 only. Dual G5 machine. I'm using a little program called SETI Control. The log window shows using V.4.05 instead of 4.09 which I thought I successfully installed. Terminal 'top' shows V.4.09, but no proccessor time while doing units. How to reset is totally unknown to me!

OK, in the 17 hrs. or so since my last post, everything seems to be working normally. Terminal 'top' shows V.4.09, but 'slots' are both showing V.4.05. I am not well versed at this, just reporting what I am seeing.

Well, now the glitch is back. I'm clueless. It would be nice if someone involved with this program could read this board now and then. Resetting project must be possible, but apparently beyond the ability of many of us. We do, after all volunteer our computers and our time to this project. A little respect for that fact would be nice from SETI programmers.

This will be the blind leading the blind here, but since no one else has answered you, I'll dive in.

When you're in Terminal, do a control-c to stop SETI/BOINC from running. You'll get a couple of lines of response -- may take a second or two. Then restart BOINC (I do this by dragging the file from the finder to the Terminal screen), and before hitting return, add a space after the filename, and then -reset_project, another space, and the URL of your project. So the whole command might look like boinc_4.1.09_powerpc-apple-darwin -reset_project http://setiathome.berkeley.edu

This technique will let you do several things (not all of which seem to work, IMHO). To find out all of them, do the control-c bit, and use -help instead of -reset_project. This won't start BOINC, but will instead give you a listing of all the commands you can use. Then you can restart BOINC with or without any of the additional commands.

Hope that helps!

I've been having the same problem without let-up on my G4 PowerBook running 10.2.8.
% boinc -reset_proect URL
does reset everything, but the problem reappears with the new data.
I've also re-installed boinc. No change.
Could there be a library I'm missing?
Assuming the problem is with some setting or library on my system, I'm thinking my only recourse is to compile by hand...but I'm loath to do that, and don't really have the time to fiddle. I'll probably just go back to classic until there's a newer Mac version, or until I upgrade to 10.3

And of course it's running absolutely fine on my dual G5 running 10.2.8...go figure.

Thanks Kathy!! I'm glad for any help, as I have very little experiance in the terminal. So as not to seem selfish, I realize that the SETI people are volunteers also, and the whole SETI thing has been a great source of fun for me. I am grateful to them and all the responders on this board. I'm a 52 yr. young Mac lover, basic stuff, mail, surfing.

10-13-04 and problem has reappeared. I reset according to Kathy A., it did reset. I'm just going to forget about it. Result restarts right away, don't really think it's my computer. Maybe the boinc or Seti people are aware of it and are working on a fix. I tend to think it's the program(s) or the data being sent to us that is the culprit. Thanks!!!!

Bump!

2004-10-20 22:06:50 [SETI@home] Result 27ap04aa.19773.2464.215900.30_6 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file

I have reset things as described above. I've even deleted the whole directory and re-installed everything. I've even played with file permissions to allow everything, just in case. No luck on anything.

Help!

I have reset twice in last week using Seti Control, done system maintenance, the whole thing as far as I know. This problem seems to come and go. No problems as I type this, but it may reappear at any time. Doesn't seem to really affect anything. It's now only mildly irritating to me, and I'm just going to forget about it and let Seti Control do it's thing.
