The 10.5.3 update was 500 megabytes!

That has got to be some kind of record... ;)

I switched to Ubuntu Linux from OS X and even here the updates seem to be big now lol :/ dunno whats going on in the world of updates.

I don't know if you're talking about record updates for OS X only, or all updates in general for OSes, but Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista x64 was over 700MB for the complete update.
