There is NO WAY that bowl contains more than 5 times the number of visible biccies in that mound! ;)

(If it weren't just for fun, I'd already be calling my lawyer.)

My lawyers are standing right here........
Squirrel, Tigger II, Bandit, and Purrball..........

They just want the biccies......

Message 760971 - Posted: 31 May 2008, 0:06:32 UTC - in response to Message 757747.

I enlarged the picture of the bowl for a better look! - Hope this is OK for the rules!...LOL. Its the same picture!

So using some maths and physics!:

There appears to be approximately 53 visible biccies. And the Biccies vary in size.

The bone shaped biscuits will be economical in the way they fit, but will need a larger space due to the fact that they are the largest biccies!;

On the other hand, the heart shaped biscuits should take less space and the biscuits will compact around there curvy shape;

Now the square shaped biccies will not fit very well unless the dog handler actually gave the bowl an extensive "Shake" to compact the biscuits. Here is a sample square one; . I apologise for the poor quality of the square biscuit image! - It was a side shot!

Now these oval shaped biccies will be the real clincher in this competition. There shape is ultra economical as the biccies actually fall into the bowl!; . This will be down to the "Rate of Deceleration" as the oval biscuits hit the sides of the bowl and the ability of the shape to quickly find their final position as the biccies settle!

*****************

Now lets not forget that the size of that bowl is very deceptive to the human eye. In your calculation, you must take into account the inner curvature of the bowl. Here is a shot of a bowl that might be manufactured in a similar plastic injection moulding machine;

The inner surface area of the bowl might well be 2.5 times the visible biscuit surface area we see in the original image! (Approximately 53 biscuits). But the inner bowl is in-fact much smaller than what you see on the exterior! Difficult to estimate the actual volume!

**************
We have also not been told if these two lads where allowed to ravage the biccies before the image was taken!
Suspect No.1;

Suspect No.2;

Both animals appear quite hungary and may have eaten or "Nosed" the biscuits before the image was taken!!!

*****************

So we must allow for the inner area of the plastic bowl, friction against the sides of the bowl when filling and for the 53 approximate visible biscuits. And also allowing for varying size, mass, density and rate of acceleration while filling the bowl. But also for the two hungry animals which might well have nuzzled or eaten some of the biscuits. And also the unknown factor of "Did the dog handler shake the bowl to achieve a compacting effect". Plus the outer circumference of the visible biscuits in relation to the space actually taken by them!!!(Total volume of biscuits, visible or not!)

************

My Guess is; 207

John.

Yep, this was the post. It was a fun competition for everyone. Baaa Humbug......My science was flawed! LOL

Thanks Crunchy!
