I have been messing with optimizers and now have some orphaned WU's in my cache. Is there any way that I can instruct the client to process them.
I tried searching the boards for Orphaned/abandoned/unprocessed/unworked Work Units and can't turn up anything on the subject.

Do you mean you have wu's in your task list on the website that aren't on your machine anymore? If so, there's nothing you can do. They will time out and be resent to other machines for processing. Due to server load issues, the resend task function has been disabled.

The only reliable way to clear these up at present is to do a client detach. WARNING. This will wipe out all WU's currently on your system.

The best way to do this is to finish any currently crunching tasks. You can also set No new tasks if you like, and finish off those already cached.

If you want to back up your local stats file before doing this, make a copy of the file statistics_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml from you BOINC folder, so that you can copy it back later.

When you are ready, selet the SETI@home project and chose Detach.

After the detach has been done, check you stats page on the website, then Re-Attach and allow new tasks

You will also need to re-install any optimized application (make sure you get the correct one for your processor).

I have WU's in my computer SETI cache that are being ignored by the client and are approaching deadline. Why won't they process? They are on the same computer to which they were downloaded but the updated and optimized client dosn't recognise them. I s'pose the safest thing to do is to simply let them expire but some of the deadlines are weeks away.

I'm loathe to try this because something is sure to screw up. If there is no way to process them then I will just let them expire and hit deadline. Everything is working well at the moment so if it ain't broke....!!

Sounds like you didn't install the optimized client the correct way. Can you shut down BOINC and restart it, then post the first 20-30 messages? What optimized app did you install?

I upgraded from 5.10.30 to 5.10.45 and installed KWSN 2.4 IA64.The work units were still there in the project folder but were'nt being picked up. I had to download more work.

Why did you install IA64? It looks like you are not using a 64 bit operating system.

I wasn't sure so I ran CPU-Z and that didn't give me a clue so I ran EVEREST and found...frontside Bus 64 Bit and Memory Module properties 64 Bit. This is on a Touchmate Stylenote Laptop, Intel Dual core 1.6Ghz.

Another mystery for you Computer Whizzes.
My Laptop is a dual core 1.6 Ghz. 1600 Mhz.
My PC is an Intel P4 dual chip 3.2Ghz 3200 Mhz.
So my PC is double the size and twice the speed of the Laptop Right???
Why is My PC taking 6 to 7 hours to crunch a WU and my Laptop takes an hour less??
What am I missing here?

Run CPU-Z and look here:

Get the version of the opp app that matches the highest instruction set listed. For my Dell it is SSE3. What does CPU-Z say for your PC?

The core and core 2 architectures are much more efficient than the P4. So you get more processing done per clock tick. I am not sure of the exact ratio but it is greater than 2 to 1. So your laptop should be comparable or a bit faster than your desktop per core.

I would suggest setting 'No new tasks' and run out your work units before doing anything. Also, don't forget to exit BOINC from the 'File' menu.
