Is it possible to run BOINC on 10.1.5? I have an old G3 233GHz with a 4 Gig hard drive. It is upgraded to 500GHZ with a Sonnet ZIF CPU. I had a very hard time upgrading it to Panther. It would upgrade, but was always screwed up. It's fine as 10.1.5. That's why I have my fairly new G4 dual 1.25. I have the old G3 set up ONLY to run SETI (Classic). I already have BOINC darwin file un gunziped. Can I just use that file in Terminal on the G3 and run BOINC there? If no one here knows, I'm going to try this tonight, if I have enough energy after work. Thanks North |

To follow up, I think I got the G3 up for a while. Then it seems always to be waiting ten minutes, over and over and over, because the Seti server says it just got data. I have it running now with SETI Control. It's doing the same thing. It's not processing any data. If anyone has any suggestions, I may not get to try them out until Thursday night due to my schedule and some sleep deprivation. I am very eager to get both computers crunching, so any suggestions about that G3, running 10.1.5 would be appreciated. According to SETI it runs Darwin 5.5 as opposed to Darwin 7.5 for the G4 Thanks, North |

OK, now I see what's going on. It downloads the data, starts to work, then gets an "unrecoverable error." Then, when it asks for more data, the SETi server says that you can't have another unit so soon. I rebooted, being unable to think of what to do next. That didn't help. So I fired up classic seti again. It's pointless for it to keep bothering the server all the time. |

Well, I don't need the answer to the question any longer, which is good since nobody has volunteered the answer. I managed, with much difficulty, to upgrade the old beige G3 to Panther. And SETI Boinc runs with no problem. So I would guess that the current version of Boinc Seti just won't run on 10.1.5. North |
