Hi all Well it had to happen eventually My oldest, and one of the first PC's I put together, is gasping for air Won't run more than a few minutes before hanging, then freezes. I upgraded it/maxed it out hardware-wise, and now ? It's just not worth it to keep it going effort-wise lol :( So, my hobby farm has lost a third of it's acreage. There are still 3.5 WU's on it (1 is 54%) I'm afraid that one will have to be lost, should I abort it? ... As for the other 3, can I move those to a usb stick, and just drop them into a running PC here? would that work? like take off eh! to The Great White North |

Hi all Find a high place to chuck it off ... it's a rush :D "Living by the wisdom of computer science doesn't sound so bad after all. And unlike most advice, it's backed up by proofs." -- Algorithms to live by: The computer science of human decisions. |

Your best bet would be to copy the entire BOINC folder from that machine and copy it to C:\\BOINC2 one of your existing machines. Then exit the running copy of BOINC and launch BOINC from C:\\BOINC2 and let it finish those couple workunits. Once complete, exit that BOINC and you can remove the C:\\BOINC2 folder and resume crunching from your original BOINC installation. Or you can keep the C:\\BOINC2 folder after you've finished crunching its workunits and load it onto a replacement machine if you plan to purchase one. |

update - looks like all ist kaput managed to get into the drive today, boinc started but showed as not attached to anything, and seti folder showed no wu's being worked on? wierd -1long 3short beeps from pc, mem is shot I think? Not a big deal really(about the wu's), but should I delete it from my host list? To make the sysytem aware the results won't be coming back, or ? some reason thanks :) like take off eh! to The Great White North |

Sounds like a memory post code...... Before you give up, you could try a couple of things..... First, I assume you have tried a cleaning and checked to be sure all cooling fans are still functional? You could remove and reseat the ram sticks, perhaps swapping them around if you have 2 installed. If your bios allows it, you could raise the ram voltage 1 notch and see if that makes a difference. If your bios allows it, you could try relaxing the ram timing settings (higher numbers than current settings) and see if that helps. Remove and reseat the video card if one is installed, video card memory will also sometimes give the same post code beeps as bad or incorrectly installed ram. Or you could upgrade the mobo and cpu to any core 2 setup for a large increase in crunchability...... Good luck.... "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

I think I must have looked in the wrong dir lol ah well, the thing needed a really really really good cleaning anyways apparently ;) like take off eh! to The Great White North |
