can I use seti on a ps3 and how fast will it go? You could have a look at SETI@Home for PS3 Linux (alpha testing) - it's an old thread, and very slow to load at the moment because the servers are bogged down, but it may help to answer your questions. |

Interesting. I hope someone with the right skills is able to help. I'm just about to start with PS3Grid, but installing YDL etc, while not difficult, may be a turnoff for many. It would be nice if Sony had enabled BOINC, as well as F@H, to be able to run directly as the 'screensaver'/idle program - you'd simply pick one or the other (and then with BOINC, pick from a small list of projects with PS3 ports). At the moment you have to reboot into linux to run BOINC, or reboot onto the USB stick (which may or may not permit your own account, rather than just a generic account). Which isn't "set and forget", which would probably get the greatest takeup/benefit. Still, anything BOINC is better than nothing, and it's nice that SETI might come on board, but for widespread adoption, I think they'd need to chat to Sony. While SETI may be short on funds, it's big in terms of public awareness, which may help their pitch to get S@H included...? Crunching SETI@Home as a member of the Whirlpool BOINC Teams |
